Hey all. I was wondering if anyone else is not too sold on the skink minis? To my mind they are just a bit ... bland.

I want the LM army I am building to have a solid Aztec/Maya feel to it - it is part of the attraction of the fluff of the army and a large part of the visual appeal. But I have a problem with the skinks. Those skink minis just don't really allow too much in the way of customisation, lip plugs, piercings etc , without a lot of work, as there isn't that much to plug or pierce in the first place - think Apocalypto if you are not too sure what I am on about. Each figure should be individualised in some way, and that just isn't going to be easy unless I go the paint alone route, which is cheating a bit and not really the result I am after.

So, at the risk of being heretical, are there any other manufacturers out there making decent "skink" minis. I have absolutely *no* interest in being tournament legal so this is not an issue for me. Otherwise it's going to be a lot of work with the green stuff...

I haven't really found any, reaper has a few possiblities but, not much really. I would suggest greenstuff.

Bangles and bracelets are pretty easy to make, bone piercings are also. I have never GSed feathers but if they are easier to make you could add a bunch.

Just as a quick fix to add a lot of character you may want to bring back the skirt idea. It adds color to the model and a lot of space to mount stuff and add accessories.

When I got back into the game I thought the skink models were super sweet, because I was used to the 5th ed. models.

I like the original Krox and Terradons. I also like the old temple guard, but I wish they were more customizable like the new ones.

Yeah, the 5th edit. kroxis is nice, but I think I'd go for the latest TG and terradons though. Especially when you're fielding Chacax and Tictaq'to, it is nice to have the some kind of similarity in the unit they join... as it is now, I only got 5 edition krox, temples and terries and I agree: they're not that bad :)

But back on topic: Speaking of alt. skinks, I would agree to craken. green stuff and a bit of convertion can make wonders and yes it will take time ;)

I have been out of WHFB a long time - hadn't seen the 5th ed skinks - have to agree that these are an improvement.

Looks like it'll be a lot of plasticard ornamentation and greenstuff feathers then :depressed: . The skirt/loincloth idea is a good one, though, many thanks Scarloc. With a few collars, bangles and piercings, that should do it. Thanks for the ideas guys.

You could check out Black Tree Designs. They have some, shall we say, interesting stuff. Though fans of the 5th edition models will be more fond of these, I expect.
