So I see post about people saying they want to start skink armies and I see list but I never really hear the outcome of how the list turn out. I have been thinking about it and decided what the hell, I want a skink army.....100% skink army. I then bought more skinks as I only had 50ish at the time and I built a few list and damn did I need some more skinks. Maximum I would need for 2400 is 120ish to fill up core. Be it that those are all cohorts, it would only 86 skirmishers. But still I was like F*** it for my 3k games and I bought more skinks. So now I have 120 skinks made and by the time I am done putting them all together I will be at 145 ish skinks. Am I being too confident that this all list army will actually stand a chance? Now this is not about tweaking my list! I am going to stick with it. I did not put it in the army list section because I want to discuss what you guys think about 100% skink armies. Not like the ones I see here or on Warseer where there is still a slann or Old blood or vet. I have yet to see one and after reading through so many of the threads and reading how many people think saurus are terrible, carnisaurs get cannon balled, temple guard are over priced garbage and now apparently our stegs sucks from a recent thread, what are we left with other than skinks which are the only guys not under fire? If so much of our army sucks why not try something new. It looks like this, (2399pts) Tehenhauin Skink Chief Blowpipe, Light Armour, Magic Items, Shield Ancient Stegadon Skink Chief Blowpipe, Light Armour, Shield Charmed Shield Skink Priest Lore of Beasts, Wizard Level 1 Cube of Darkness Teto 43x Skink Skirmishers Javelins with Shield 43xSkink Skirmishers Blowpipe Chameleon Skinks 10x Chameleon Skink x3 Ripperdactyl x3 Ripperdactyl Ancient Stegadon Sharpened Horns (*) Ancient Stegadon Sharpened Horns (*) Salamander Hunting Pack Extra Handler
First off, grab a second Salamander, drop one of the Ancients if you have to to fit it in. You are going to have a huge problem with hordes otherwise. Secondly, split the 2 units of 43 up into make smaller units. Like 6 units of 10 skirmishers and one ~30 block of Cohorts. I dont know if this fits your theme, but putting some Kroxigor in the Cohort will really help you. Other wise this can work, Armor will be tough to crack but it can work
My list will not see any tweaks as of yet because the way I will be playing it. But remember I really want to discuss why there are no all skink armies even though everyone one seems to hate our core and lords. Thats why I did not put it in the army list section. Also the skinks will NOT be in blocks of 43. They will be broken down into units of 10-13. I should have specified. And bring on the hordes trying to catch 70 point units of skinks while I focus elsewhere.
Problems with all skink armies, as I see is: 1. Low leadership - I predict cascading flees all over the board. 2. Low caster levels --can be overcome, dual scroll's are effective! 3. Struggles against high amour - may be overcome by the sheer number of shots? tell me how you fair with it! STRENGHTS though 1. Power in numbers - Odds improve by the sheer amount of attacks, and I think you can dominate the movement phase brutaly 2. Threats all over. - People hate skinks, double the skinks, double the hate. No places of the board will be safe from shooting attacks. 3. No big point piles - Who wanna throw a 5-6 dice spell at 100 pts? I would REALLY like to get a rundown on your upcoming matches, especially now im in the "break comfortzone" spirit nice initiative!
The leadership is really what is going to be worrying me. I also have a list with the Cheif being a BSB on the steg to give him large target and boost his leadership to 18". I think that would make a huge difference. To over come the armor I have a few beast priest to give the javelin skinks wild form and bring them up to s4 shooters. That is really my only way I can think of beating armor. And about the no big points. Thats what I think is going to be the kicker. You have 30 archers? fine shoot my 70 points all game. 4 dicing doom bolt to kill a unit half the cost of the monster they just killed? There is just so much potential because they are basically fighting an army of chaff that can actually do something. Say they did take out a unit a turn. That is still only 420 points while skinks can easily earn that back. I am really excited for it. Also, I will post some pictures with the army on the table because right now with 120 skinks, it is just an absurd amount of models especially in skirmish formation. I better get building my movement trays for them.
I dont think you are allowed to make your general the BSB, that is Slann exclusive (Correct me if im wrong someone) .... Also: If you dont already do it, may I suggest you buy some magnets and magnet sheets? makes Skink-handling SO MUCH EASIER!
No your right! Tehen would have to be my general anyways. But at least the rerolls will help! I actually am in the process of magnetizing my WE and Lizzies. I am basically making the trays, add a small sheet of metal; has to be thin as possible so the it does not push the bases over the lip of the tray, and they spraying it black and they look very nice. Then all I need to do is take hot glue and small neodym magnets and Im set
All skink lists represents the one core strengths of LM...skinks and poison. The should be fine with tetto and tehehuain if you carry a dispel scroll on a caddy. The other major LM strength you forfeit by using skink only is saurus characters. They bring a lot to the table... resilience, decent martial prowess and a way to effectively nullify armor saves (GW or pirahna blade etc. That does not mean your list cannot work, just mind the skink BSB on steg....good warmachine target if they get a bead on him.
Well with my ripperdactyls and chameleons I should be able to take them down quick but that is not guaranteed. There are not a lot of cannons in my meta though so I should be fine in that department. The thing also about armor. With the mobility of this army I could potentially avoid the heavy armored units while taking care of the rest but nights would become an issue. This themed army is basically spray and pray.
Without giving you list suggestions, I will say that - yes, this list can work. It's going to have some match-up situations, and generally, you will be relying on your opponent failing armor saves for success. I could easily see you playing a game against an opponent with Knights/Warriors Chariots - where he just 'makes all his saves' and really bowls through the skinks (killing 1 unit for a chariot isn't worth it - but if it gets 2 units, it is). You have a nice counter to that in the form of the Stegs, and I can totally see them playing a huge roll in those match-ups that are hard for the other skinks (Warriors especially). Leadership will be a concern, as you know (on flanks especially) - and you may find entire flanks swept away by one enemy unit causing cascading panic tests. But overall, yes - you will give the average opponent a run for their money. I would say that the reason players on this forum haven't mentioned such as strategy is that the vast majority of us got into Lizardmen because we thought Saurus (and Carnosaurs) looked super cool. The fact that they weren't as good as we'd like got us searching elsewhere for answers - meaning Templeguard, CoC, Krox, and ScarVets/OB's all got play. Then we found out that Scar Vets/OB's were pretty awesome for their points, and have been sticking to that ever since, while slowly admitting that our core was best off as 'all skink'.
