In my 2000pt list I'm fielding 2x20 Saurus units, a 20 Temple Guard unit with Slann, 12 Skinks with Priest and 7 Chameleons. I was originally planning on fielding an Ancient Steg with them, but for the same points I can get 3 Salamanders with extra handlers and even have points left over for some magic items or such. What do people think is the better option?

I'd try two individual salamanders, each with an extra handler, and spend the rest on filling out some of your other units. They're more mobile by themselves, they can target different units, and they're somewhat less of a target priority than a unit of three.

Stegadons are great, but nothing matches the the value of a salamander for it's points.

Salamanders is the better choice, but the stegadon is good, cool and lots of fun. I would put booth in and remove something else.

I suggest removing one of the saurus blocks for the steg.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I think I'm gonna go with Gor-Rok's suggestion and have a pair of independent Salamanders, that looks to me to be the better option.
