Been playing Orc/goblin for more years than I care to remember. Been wanting something totally different, you know a "reliable" army. 2400 point "banded" tournement. Units need 5+ models and a command element (any type) or a character attached to control an area. Looking for a balanced MSU force that will make the middle band. Never actually needs to win, just be fun for both sides. Lords 365 - Life Slann, BSB, plaque of tepok, focused rumination, higher state of consciousness Heros 250 - Scar Vet, cold one, lt armour, burning blade of Chotec, charmed shield, luck stone, venom of firefly - Skink priest, dispel, seed of rebirth Core 1,272 - 2 x 30 saurus, full command - 1 x 10 skink (javelin/shield), mus - 1 x 14 skink (javelin/shield), mus - 6 x 10 skink skirm (blowpipe) Special 192 - 1 x 8 Chameleons, stalker - 1 x 7 Chameleons, stalker Rare 320 - 2 x 2 Salamander with 2 extra handlers Will this be fun/fair? Thoughts appreciated.
I think people may frown on all the skirmishing skinks, but you'll be in the top-tier band facing strong armies, so they will have no right to complain. Does Venom of the Firefly Frog work on a magic weapon? The army doesn't seem optimized for Lore of Life. In particular, no stegadons to take advantage of Lifebloom. I would probably go Lore of Death.
You are correct about the Venom of the Firefly Frog only works on mundane weapons. Appreciate the feedback. Guess after going band 3 Orcs for so long... Any thoughts on fixing this army for a band 2 while keeping the slann? Say another saurus of block in lieu of the sallies... or will it require starting from scratch?
So this list is relatively hard. A skink cloud is a tough thing to play against, and a lot of opponents dont enjoy playing against one. Generally all you do is double flee everything and keep on shooting. With that said, here is what jumps out at me: Without temple guard or stegadons, life loses a lot of it's power. I would look at metal or light. Dyvim is right, VoTFF does not work with a magic weapon. If you play a lot of games with fortitude, you might want to add standards to the javelin skinks. Stalkers are not normally worth the points, I normally opt for getting more skinks. Finally, I would look at getting some units of 3 terradons. They are an important part of the skink cloud since they can move 20, flee, rally, and move 20 again next turn because they are fast cav.
I am not a comp judge, but I suspect that if you want to have an shot at landing in Band 2 with a Slann, you probably need to have no more than one discipline of the ancients, and it probably can't be Focused Rumination. You would also need to shift to away from the "skink cloud" to a list with more ranked units. Depending on your goals for the tournament, it might be better to not try for band 2 since you might just end up with one of the weaker armies in Band 1. I like the Stalkers in the Chameleons since it makes them "scoring units" for purposes of the tournament scenarios, so keep them even though they might not be worthwhile in a regular game.
