I started gaming about 15 years ago and since then continued to play less and less. I want to end that miserable situation now and try to find some new gamers in my vicinity (btw Stendal in Germany, near Berlin, just in case someone from there reads this...). However, as my last game lies quite some time back and I never used the new lizard rules I wanted to see what you think of my 2000 pts list. Slann: Focus of Mystery, Focused Rumination (I’m not sure about the naming of this as I own the not-quite-so-well-translated german army book – I want to use the power where I get extra dice for casting) BSB Diadem of Power Skink Priest: lvl 2 wizard Dispel Scroll EotG Skink Hero Ancient Stegadon Stegadon Warspear 15 Saurus w/ full command 16 Skinks w/ full command and 2 Kroxigors 10 Skink Skirmishers 7 Chameleon Skinks 3 Terradons 11 Temple Guards w/ full command 1997 pts Any thoughts? Do I need a full command in all these units? And do I need a Saurus Hero?
I like your list. Its pretty well balanced out. I don't think you'd really need a saurus hero, as there are plenty of useful LM lists without them. As well, your unit sizes tend to be smaller, so I don't think a full command is the way to go, besides maybe in the temple guard or saurus block. With the 2 stegs, not having large blocks of saurus doesn't seem to be a huge problem. The only thing I think I would change if it were my army list would be to drop the chameleon skinks. They are just as expensive as a saurus warrior, and they aren't nearly as survivable. I'm certainly not saying there isn't a use for them, I think they just have a very niche position that might be better filled with a few more saurus, especially if you're just starting out with the lizardmen again. Without the unit of skirmishers too, you'd have points left over for a small unit of saurus or a decent skink priest. Anywho, thats just my two cents. I'm a fan of big infantry blocks and stacks of power dice, so I tend to lean in that direction whenever there are points left over.
i really don't think you will need the power of diadiem for the slann. you already have 6 DD with your slann and priest. i would consider giving your slann the cupped hands of the old ones. on top of that, your skinks with kroxigor don't need FC. i usually run them as is with no command at all. it keeps them cheap enough that if they break, i'm not heartbroken just yet. i would consider dropping the chameleon skinks because the unit of terradons is a good enough unit to do some damage to warmachines. and with the extra points, consider putting more saurus warriors into your block, maybe another unit of skink skirmishers because you will need a screen for all 3 of your fighting blocks. but at the same time, 2 ancient stegadons (1 EotG, 1 with warspear) isn't that friendly of a list
not? see, thats what I as a noob thought No, seriously, you may be right there... but there are just too great not to use them! Thanks for the advice, you two. I dislike the idea of having too many static unit-blocks in my army, since in my earlier games they tended to get in each others way, so I just dumped the chameleons and the commands and took another unit of skirmishers and a few more temple guards. Now my army look like this (changes in green): Slann: Focus of Mystery, Focused Rumination BSB Cupped Hands Skink Priest: lvl 2 wizard Dispel Scroll EotG Skink Hero Ancient Stegadon Stegadon Warspear 15 Saurus 16 Skinks w/ 2 Kroxigors 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 3 Terradons 14 Temple Guards w/ full command 1999 pts
Looks good! I like the list a lot. The changes you have made are quite good and I do not have much to add to your list. My only advice is to maybe get in some ranked Skinks to open up flank charges. Other than that it looks great!
That list does look alot better. I didn't even think of it the first time I looked at the list, but The cupped hands of the old ones makes that slaan alot more surviveable. I've only had to use it once, but it was nice to keep him from vaporizing himself. As for the stegs, I've seen 4 stuffed into a 2000pts list before, so 2 certainly isn't a stretch. Two gives you a flexible way to support your saurus block and they work well for both offense and defense. Your list is nice because it doesn't sink to many points into a single place. You keep your opponents attention with several dangerous options, so they can't concentrate warmachine/magic fire on one thing, wipe it out, then cruise easily to victory.
Thank you all for your suggestions, they helped a lot! I just re-calculated my list though and came up with 34 pts too much. What do you think I should drop? I would go for 2 Temple Guards and one of the ranked Skinks.
I wouldn't drop a ranked skink. You need 8 of them for each kroxigor, so you'd have to drop one of them from the unit as well. I have yet to see a LM list that would benefit from less kroxigors. If you had to drop something, I would suggest two temple guard and the musician from the TG unit. Seeing as how they're going to be sticking around awhile with coldblooded stubborness, the musician is slightly less neccessary than the standard bearer.
You're right, I forgot about the kroxigors needing 8 Skinks each. If I drop the TG musician, I could even put another Skink in the ranked unit. That sounds like a good plan...
