Does anyone know or has anyone heard any possible rumors for us getting an updated book? I'd love for Games Workshop to release all new 8th Ed rulebooks for all armies and leave it like that for a few years instead of constantly having out of date armies.

Most likely the year after that or possibly later...

There is nothing broken in out book compared with others, it may be better to wish for it to be delayed to post 9th ed.

Other armies need a new book more than us, I hope everyone gets an 8th ed book eventually though. If we have to wait till ninth I'll be sad.

Ok, so we "Dont" need an update, does anyone know what armies they have in mind for the next 8th ed stuff?

I personally think they should wait and release all army books at the same damn time when they release a new rules edition (say in the future when ninth comes out).

I guess bretonnians are still using 6th edition army book, but I rarely see brets on the table.

they really should do that, that would be only logical. But hey its GW. If they realease one by one they get more $ so they spit on our gaming and they do what they can for $.

Well, if they keep with 8th edition for say 3-5 years they should have all army books updated within that time frame. I'd just like to see at some point in my life all the books of the game created with the current editions ruleset in mind.

Someone posted an interview from gamescon or whatever it was that happened recently. The developers said, at least for 40k, that it takes about five years of dev time per codex. That's right, from assignment to printing it has a longer dev cycle than most video games.

    http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2011/10/40k-news-gamesday-australia-tidbits.html

This says to me that codex and rule books are really made with far reaching scope, so things that don't necessarily make sense now, could make sense two years from now, and vice versa. Throw into that the fact that shit happens, and you've got the current state of GW games.

I wouldn't quite say 5 years, but remember its not just the book. There is also model design, sculpting, moulding, casting, packaging, pricing... Etc. I know to start with, from start to finish a plastic sprue takes 18 months to 2 years to complete, and you need to do that either before or after the book to make sure fluff, rules and artwork match reasonably well. It is a much much longer process than a lot of people think.

Well, we will be after these armies: Wood Elves, Brettonians, Dwarves, Empire, Vampire Counts, Dark Elves, High Elves, Deamons, Warriors of Chaos.

Not in any particular order and maybe one or two of those will be after Lizards. Following the three or four books a year method that is going to be 2 to 3 years

I wouldn't be surprised with 5 year per book - remember they will be working on 5-6 books at the same time, so it'll only have 1-2 people working each book.

Look at it this way - most people accept that a film or computer game takes 2-3 years to make, then imagine (in the sake of computer games) having to balance that game against 7 other games currently on the market AND 4 other games in development to ensure that they are all equally as difficult.

Indeed in the world of online computer games most companies only have 2 "sides" because balanceing 3 would take too long to release the game, imagine the complexaties of balanceing 9-10!!!!

Personally I reckon that manageing a 4-5 year time scale when you really think about the work involved is pretty quick.

The big rumors right now are that VC are getting a book in Jan/Feb, Empire in May/June and Dwarves after that. Makes sense given White Dwarf had that recent article updating VC rules and models already and Empire being an extremely popular army (the Space Muhrines! of WHFB).

People have already started 'confirming' new models for the armies as well, with Empire getting more Warrior Priest options and Demigryphon monstrous cav and VC getting Flesh Golem monstrous infantry.

Again just rumors, mostly on warseer, but the people dropping them haven't been wrong before.
