So, yeah... Just watched "Land of the Lost". Funny movie. But the scene where the main character is mounted on a T-Rex and down a number on the lizard people has made me wonder. How effective is the Carnosaur? If I wanted to run a list with as many monstrous creatures as I could, what would be the best way to do this? How many of this giant dinosaurs can I fit into a 2k list and still have an effective army? Thanks in advance!
Well, that depends on what you mean by 'monstrous creature'. You, of course, can't have an army with only stegadons and carnosaurs, however, there is a way of creating an army without any foot troops. Monstrous creatures can technically refer to everything in a lizardmen army - Saurus Warriors are hardly human are they? But, if you take Kroq-Gar as your general, then one unit of Cold One Cavalry can be classed as troops. If you have a big enough unit of Cold Ones, then this would be a legal list - would it be effective? That's a different story. You could create an army consisting of only Cold Ones and Carnosaurs if you wanted, or you could support these units with other fast, hard-hitting units, like terradons, or stegadons. If you did do this however, you would have very few units to play with. And it would be extremely liable to artillery. Chameleon skinks would be an absolutely necessity.
Messing around in army builder you can have a 3k list with 6 stegadons and 2 blocks of 30 saurus warriors! It uses lord mazumundi, EotG, chief on steg, 2 ancients, and 1 special choice stegadon. I have no idea how effective it would be, but it would be really funny to see on the table. On a more serious note: I did play a friendly game a week or so ago that used a carnasaur, 2 stegs and 2 salamanders. I ended up winning but that was probably due to my opponents own weird list of a block of 100 ghouls. It was fun, but that was the whole point.
