Hi I am new to Lustria, was playing 40K for years, but have now got back into AoS. I have always loved the Lizards ans now starting my first army. what is the bast way to arm my Skinks. Just had a birthday so have now found my self with two starter box's a box of rippers, starseer, and two boxes of Skinks. I am getting confused having read some of the threads as to how to arm my skinks to uses them in a Shadowstrike Starhost.
I personally prefer the bolt spitters and shields. In groups of 30 or more that 3+ 3+ is great and the the ignoring -1 rend with the shields is brilliant. I think since you have 48 skinks, I would either split it up to 35 and 13, or if you feel like buying more then I would recommend 48 skinks and 10 chameleons or another box of skinks for 72 skinks, if you feel like modifying some skinks to chameleons I would do 40 regular and modify 8 to be chameleons.
how have you done your rippers? if as rippers then definitely put ranged weapons on the skinks to lend a hand in melee whilst the skinks run away with their special rule if you do get them charged. if terradons you should still have enough melee power from your other stuff from the starter boxes. so ranged firepower is probably the way to go. I prefer the javelins as they can help out a it in melee if you somehow get stuck there. also definitely shields as ignoring rend 1 keeps your fragile skinks alive. would love to see your photos! just out of interest what 40k army have you got. I play dark eldar myself
Thanks for the heads up on the Rippers. 40K I have the standard marines, with a large Nids army and a Daemon Army
I thought the war scroll says " Others loose crackling boltspitters and either wield Moonstone clubs Or carry star-bucklers " Didnt think you could have both.
When I played 40k WYSIWYG rules applied so as long as I had it somewhere on the model I could use it! Throw the javelins on their backs and never be unprepared!
The options for the skinks' equipment, are: meteoric javelin + star buckler boltsplitter + star buckler boltsplitter + moonstone club moonstone club + star buckler (basically, two hands, two items... but strangely, in the battlescroll it's not listed the combo javelin + club) Hope it helps!
Option 1: leave them on and announce to your opponent when you put them down their loadout. Option 2: cut them off for pure WYSIWYG. In my area WYSIWYG is not so important. Honestly option 1 is my style. They look cool and ready for battle. And if I need to add models to my units equipped with only hand weapons or only blowpipes they blend in well. And as separate units you can tell them apart enough.
