    Hi All,

I'm totally new to Seraphon, and will be starting games at my local GW soon, I've got a fairly small force together but am looking to buff and improve.

    So far, I have:

    Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Skink Priest
    12 x Saurus
    10 x Saurus Cavalry
    15 x Saurus Guard
    Bastiladon (Solar Beam)
    Stegadon (EotG)

I feel like I need more core, and to decide if my current forces better fit defence or offence, and build out from there.

Definite purchases for next mail order:
    Slann (Kroak or Star?)
    Eternity Warden
    Astrolith Bearer

I'm popping down to GW this week and want to get a box or two, trying to decide between:

    More Saurus Warriors
    More Saurus Guard
    Ripperdactyls
    Skinks

If I go for more Saurus Guard, I may convert my 12 other Saurus into Guard with the bits, so I'm full Guard, but I'm not sure if I should stack some normal Saurus for easy summoning!

Any basic advice or suggestions are welcomed!

From your definite purchase list, it looks like you favour a defensive play style?

    So Kroak
    and more guard
Seraphon are brilliant as almost any combo will work so get the models you want and like.

Also don't forget you can mix in other Order faction models to work along side your seraphon.

Thanks Crowsfoot, should I be totally replacing Saurus with Guard then?

Do you think that the cavalry have any place in a defensive army? I could see them working alongside Camelion Skinks for causing general chaos, might be worth keeping them for summoning?

For warriors to be effective you want 30+ and a Sunblood, for Guards15+ and a Eternity warden so replacing all your warriors and using guards will work, the guard won't be as effective as warriors but they also won't die as easily.

Have a read of this thread as a lot of what your wanting to know is covered by far more experienced players than me.

    Thanks Crowsfoot.

I've just ordered Kroak, and an Eternity Warden, so am going ahead for now with:

    Kroak
    Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Skink Priest
    Eternity Warden
    27 x Saurus Guard
    10 x Saurus Cavalry
    Bastiladon (Solar Beam)
    Stegadon (EotG)

Seems like a fairly solid foundation!

You will want more guard, but the knights will make a great support unit and distraction. Running them up a little behind the carno will give your opponent a lot to think about when charging, but will give you some good opportunity to charge with them. 2 units of 5 can be quite devastating with hit and run tactics. Since you already have the priest you should look into skinks and rippers for the Shadowstrike host. I prefer chameleons but skinks can be just as good. Rippers and chameleons are great psychological warfare. It forces your opponent to choose their movements very carefully and keeps them paranoid of when these things will hit the battlefield.

This is one reason I love Rippers you know they are lurking but never sure were.

More guard, no knights. Knights are one of our four core units and you should dedicate to only one core because each offers a radically different play-style and mixing them will dilute your power. It's like water and coke, great on their own but when you mix it together it's just a watered down version of something good and nobody wants that.

That's assuming you want to play a defensive army, which is what the Guard specialise in. The Knights are all about dominating the movement phase and getting your charges in to hit with a Blazing Lances/Blazing Cohort combo as much as possible.

If you want a fast distraction unit, Salamanders are a better bet. Fast with an 8" Move, better Line Breakers than a throwaway Knight unit, can summon more wounds back faster than Knights, and offer a great ranged support too.

Do we have a thread somewhere where you describe our core? Basically, a thread explaining the different ways of building your Seraphon force, and what to add/avoid for each of our four styles? I couldn't find them at first glance :/

I don't think @Bainbow and @Killer Angel have got round to doing that yet but it is something that has been asked for and pretty sure they are on the case.

Actually I hadn't thought of doing that before. I'll get started on it as soon as I build these Hearthguard.

Don't think it's broken, but the bone is bruised at the very least and it's swollen to all hell to the point where I can't use half of my fingers due to swellings blocking the bones. I can't go to work while it's like this, which is a bummer. But it's nothing too serious, I should be up and running before long.
