Hi there! I´m gonna play a game on saturday and for the fist time I will be able to use the "auqatic" special rule. I have tried to find some information in the rulebook regarding marching in rivers and swamps with this special rule, but I cant find any. So... With the auquatic special rule, are the unit able to march in swamps and rivers?
Page 30 Lizardmen army book: Aquatic Models with this special rule have the Marshalnd Strider and River Strider special rules. In addition, models with this special rule can march, claim rank bonus and be steadfast even when in Marshalnd or a River. Furthermore, if every model in a unit has the Aquatic special rule, and the majority of the unit is within a Marshland or a River, enemies shooting at that unit suffer an additional -1 To Hit penalty.
Hmm I havent really put my mind over this matter.. but soo. rivers and marshes give soft cover right? so skinks in a river get the -1 to hit soft cover And the aquatic -1 to hit cover as well? sweet
With apologies in advance for an extreme noob question, but if a river/marsh is "toxic" (ie potential to cause damage to units) do they still affect units with the Aquatic special rule?
I think the answer is yes....like a unit with forest strider will still take hits from wildwood at the end of the movement phase when in the wood
I say Yes aswell. But they will not take difficult terraintest in river/marchland. Just as WE can walk through Venom Thicket without taking DT-test. But effects that are caused without a DT-test is still effecting the unit.
Shouldd't this be in the "Rules help" forum? Anyway, had a small question as well, since me and a friend are setting up a scenario where this will become important. Dark Elves are making a beach assault against a Lizardmen faction, and here are tons of water and rock formations. If I have hard cover (Which we decided a cave would grant you), and I am in water... would I then get -3? The wording sounds as if it "counts as" soft cover, but it doesn't actually say it does. I'm just thinking that a base -4 modifier to hit skirmishers is a bit... much. Tap on movement, long range, and multishot, and you'll practically never hit.
I would say that "counts as soft cover" is soft cover, so you should only use the hard cover bonus from the rock.
But who really cares? Hard cover and skirmish is already -3. Add move, long range and multiple shots. They're already hitting you on 6+ before you add multiple shots, so basically 7+ before long range.
I watched a game with Skinks in a river. Those players used the -1 to hit for the unit being in the river, but did not also give a -1 for being in soft cover. It seemed fair and did make the Skinks harder to hit.
I'm just wondering, since it doesn't actually say it acts as soft-cover. And it DOES matter, especially when you are up against stuff with high BS, and sometimes even see boosted BS through things like Hand of Glory.
