Hey all, So I've been shopping around for a number of models, and I just can't find them anywhere outside the GW website. Now I'm sure I could ask my local shop to special order certain models for me, but since I can't really find them anywhere, I'm wondering if there's something about GW's distribution that I don't know about. Here are the models I haven't been able to find: Slann Razordons/Sallies Kroxigor Skink Chiefs Oxyotl and other character models Chamo skinks So far I've been forced to scour ebay for SOME of these models, so what gives?
All those models are labled as 'web exclusive' on the GW store which means you can only buy them direct from GW. Basically I think did this to all their finecast and metal models unless they are new releases like tetto or Gorrok. Independent stockists should still be able to order them specially, but you won't get a discount because GW won't be offering the Indy store one on these items.
Yah, the stores here don't stock the finecast stuff. Only the plastic kits and some leftover metal clampacks.
I just put three salamanders on Ebay. they will post up tomorrow night at 7pm Pacific time. feel free to bid. I also have 6 metal chameleons in blisters. $30 and they are yours (plus shipping).
Ok...good to know. Seems like a terrible business model... @Sleboda, I've actually got a group of Chamo skinks, but thanks for the offer. I'll definitely be looking for those sallies...
It's to garuntee them exclusive sales (and profit) that they don't have to share with stockists! Notice how its stuff that is "core" to the armies.....
My theory is that this points to the rumor regarding the eventual phase-out of finecast. By reducing or stopping the production of all existing finecast clams (apart from the new releases) and making them GW exclusive, they don't have to create a lot of stock in order to supply everyone. Instead, everyone will order them directly to GW until the products are depleted to be replaced with plastic ones. Also it doesn't hurt the fact that they get all the profits from directly selling said items like Axolotyl said.
On Finecast, did anyone else notice that practically nothing (maybe even actually nothing) for Dark Elves or Space Marines came out in Finecast, and that the only new item for Lizardmen using it was Tetto? I believe it's on its way out. Good riddance.
I was thrilled! Even more so when i had to put together my first terradon (old ones) the other day, and realized that resin not only have a 100% chance of a bent spear, but also has a heck of a hard time being glued together.
It also means they are producing fewer models to just stock shelves. This makes it easier to maintain a higher level of quality control which should help to reduce the number of complaints circulating about finecast.
