Once again I have another question...

Is there any rules about the figures bases like the size of the base. An example: you have a leader with a small base but you want to place him on a larger one and decorate it with stones etc. is that illegal?

Yes it is illegal, models need to have the appropriate base sizes. If you really wanted to do what you describe, just make sure you keep the outline of where the correct base is for purposes of charges, LOS, etc. For clarity though, it may be better just to do as much as you can within the borders of your actual base.

What if you have a figure with a round square base, are you aloud to change it to a round one even tho you know they won't rank up then

Square bases are important in Fantasy more because of line of sight than ranking up. Often times heroes won't fit perfectly because of all their assorted bits and pieces sticking every which way. But the square base is how you determine what the model can see, and there is no clear cut way to do this with a round base.

As a fantasy player, I kind of throw up a little in my mouth when people plunk down things with round bases and start referring to them as "squads". They're units people!!

    Haha nice one.

Yeah definitely no round bases in WHFB, though the old eagles came with round so my eagles sit on round bases. My opponents don't mind as long as we have a proper one handy to compare when needed.

If you want something a bit more special for your character, you can make a diorama and have a bit of a square 'hole' in the middle, so he can be placed in it for display or removed from it (on his proper sized base) for gaming. Many Golden Daemon entries do this.

Do you mean the opening on the bottom where you "slot in" the models? If so, you can cover those up when you finish your base. Simplest would be taking a tiny bit of plasticard and gluing over the hole. Once your base is hole-free, then you can paint and cover it with terrain of your choice. Could probably just use greenstuff as well.

Or do you mean the model not being centered? I agree that sometimes the models don't line up perfectly using the slots, sometimes it may be best to cover over the slot, clip off the bottom thingie from you model that goes into the slot, then you can place it however it looks best or ranks up best. You can usually find spare bases lying around your local store's bits bin, and some of them won't have the slot at all if you want to work from that to start with.

I've answered two questions, but still not sure what you are asking...

"isn't codex 40k and army book Fantasy?"

    Yep, codex is from 40K.

The comic was done by Jeff Carroll from the Podhammer podcast (www.podhammer.net)... it is great stuff to listen to while painting and modeling. Really dig back through the old episodes, as most of the army books have been fully reviewed and they give you a good general impression of each if you've never faced them. Also, there is a ton of humor, some of it done at the expense of 40K players, some of it downright innane, all of it funny. A caution though, it has strong language and "adult" themes sometimes. The discussions are all done from the perspective of tournament play, with not as much focus on fluff and modeling.
