Hi guys, quick question about the shooting attack. Do I need to roll bs to hit or is this special shooting attack automatic hits? Its kinda wierd because bastiladon is monster and it has bs of 0, tho skinks have 3 Thx
So it is, in fact, not a shooting phase at all, It's a spell, In fact, imagine it is a level zero wizzard, that cannot channel.
Yea the new book is chock full of bound spells and a lot of them have the "all enemy units within X inches" effect.. (Baslidon, Kroak, Engine of the gods, etc...)
The Ark of Sotek is not a spell at all. It's a shooting attack that automatically hits. The Skinks heat it up, the snakes slither out in all directions, then the enemies get bit. No magic at all. Just fire. Not a magic missile. Not magic. Just angry snakes. You don't need to aim angry snakes.
On a related note... What are we thinking when it comes to the Ark of Sotek shooting attack hitting enemies in close combat? Or the EotG for that matter? Typically shooting attacks and direct damage can't hit enemies in close combat, but these two just specify a radius of units that will be hit. It seems like they would hit enemies in CC, but I can't really tell.
We ran into this just recently and while the RAI appears to be that both the Ark of Sotek and EotG would be able to affect units in CC, the rules thus far only support it for the Ark. For the Ark, the rules specifically state that the "special shooting attack" can be activated even if the Beastieboy is engaged in CC, thus allowing the hits to occur in CC. For the EotG, it is listed as a direct damage spell. As per page 31, Choosing a Target, the 4th limitation on spells is "unless otherwise stated,...wizards cannot target spells at units engaged in CC". That being the case, it cannot target enemy units in CC since it does not specifically state otherwise. The one conundrum is that Burning Alignment is a random area of effect and thus doesn't select a target, be it in combat or out. Consequently, it can easily be argued either way depending on which part of the rules one wants to interpret more strictly RAW than others. For the moment, we just d6 it with the spell not impacting units in CC if the defender wins but still affecting all other units within range.
