So I don't really have a max points value, I want whatever I can get out of the battalion, a slann, and a box of temple guards and anywhere from 1000-2000 works. What I have so far is this (I don't really care if the percentages are illegal so long as i have at least 20% core): Special: 730pts Cold One Cavalry x8 -Champion, musician, standard bearer -Jaguar Standard Temple Guard x20 -Champion, musician, standard bearer -Sword of Battle (champion only) Core: 340pts Skink Skirmishers x12 -Champion Saurus Warriors x20 -Champion, musician, standard bearer Characters: 430pts Slann Mage-Priest -3 disciplines of the ancients -The focused rumination -Unfathomable presence -The Harrowing Scrutiny -plaque of tepok -war drum of xahutec Total Points: 1500 I'm still a little unsure of plaque of tepok vs. focus of mystery. The reason I chose plaque of tepok get 5/6 spells (5/7 in some lores) for a lot less points, but I also am thinking of giving the slann diadem of power, so he has +7 to dispel + i can save up to 2 power dice and use them for dispel, which makes me pretty likely to dispel, I'm pretty sure my opponent will be using a lvl4 wizard, so it will take quite a bit to make sure i can consistently dispel his most powerful spells. Anyway if anyone has any ideas for my list I'm glad to take suggestions. I have the island of blood starter set, and if necessary I can use some of the models in it as substitutes (such as a rat ogre for a krox). I hoping to squeeze in a little more core somehow but I haven't decided how I'm going to do that yet.
The list isn't legal unfortunelty at 1500 the most you can spend on lord is 375 =( Equally you have underspent on core as you need to spend Atleast 375 there As for the contents as i'm sure your aware reading these forums CoC are not a great choice but given your choice of models that is fine. The champion on the skink skirmishers is never worth it
Champions in skink cohorts can have their place. If you have a character or two in the unit, it is always good to absorb a challenge so the chief's attacks can be directed toward the weaker unit (or the priest can be protected from a challenge).
Yes champions in skink cohorts do have their place but both the original poster and me were talking about skink skirmishers =)
ok, I see what you're saying about the champion. I'm really new to this game so that really helps. I'm thinking that I might make the skirmishers reg. skinks so i can throw in some kroxigors. What do you think? Also, should I go jav+shield or blowpipe? like I said in the beginning, I don't really care about the points rules, as this will be just for a friendly game against my some of my family members. However, I was considering getting another unit of 20 saurus with spears. P.S. what is CoC?
CoC= Cold One Cavalry on the skink front if they are cohorts (regular) i always go with javelin and shield for the parry save from the shield in CC (Close Combat), if skirmishers i tend to go for blowpipes. And i love my skrox unit (skink unit with Kroxigor(s)) but its personal preference but i always take one unit at most points levels. Yours aye Mixer
well now that i know what CoC is, I can reply to that. I really like the cold one cavalry. With a jaguar standard, they can take down a good sized unit. With a spell cast on them for always strikes first (although im not sure if one exists in the generic magic) they are a powerful unit. But I definitely want your opinion on WHY you think they aren't a good choice. I'm not dissing your opinion, I'm just new to the game and would like to know if a unit i tend to use a lot is not in fact very good.
oooh I tend not to think about points/effectiveness, but see how it would be a huge factor. Thanks a lot for your help! I also see how my model limitations affect that more. P.S. Are the sallies/ razors the same size base as the CoC? because then I could get some more skinks and use them as hunting packs. I would get actual hunting packs but they're something like $25 a pop.
As others have mentioned they are not points effective. They are simply fast moving saurus, in our army we have better options in the fast moving catagory in skink skirmishers, Skrox units, terradons and chamo skinks which you will get much more bang for your buck.
sallys are on a 40mm x 40mm base where CoC are on 25mm x 50mm base so no they aren't. Don't get me wrong CoC can be devasting if used right, get them in the flank of something supporting your saurus or something else in combat and they can show their worth. they have a GOOD arm our save and you have the cold one attacks as well as the saurus. They have their uses but as i and others have said, at this points level its a lot of points to put in 1 unit of 7. Having said that it will be fun working out how best to utilise for you and your army. Yours Aye Mixer
