Hi everyone, I'm attending a Battle Brothers tournament in May. It's a pairs tournament, with each side consisting of 2 legal 1000pt armies, using the alliance rules from the BRB. I'll be using lizards and my friend will bring dwarves. I don't think it's really an 'optimal' alliance but it isn't awful either. What do you think of this combined list. We've tried to create something that will compliment each other well. As we're both forces of order, we'll be trusted allies and therefore we can operate as a single army. What do you think? Can you suggest any changes, and what do your think we may struggle with? Each list is maxed out on heroes, so points are fairly tight. All comments welcome!! Thanks, DWS LIZARDS: Lizards Heroes (245pts) Saurus Scar Veteran: Cold One, Light armour, Great Weapon, Dragon Helm. Skink Priest: Lvl 2 Lore of Beasts. Dispel scroll Lizards Core (500pts) 30 Saurus warriors: Full command. Hand weapons and shields 10 Skink Skirmishers: Javelins and Shields 10 Skink Skirmishers: Blowpipes Lizards Special (170 pts) 5 Chameleon Skinks: Blowpipes 3 Terradon Riders: Javelins Lizards Rare (84 pts) Salamander with additional handler. STUNTYFOLK: Dwarf Heroes (249pts - maxed out): Thane: BSB. Shield. Master Rune of Grungni Runesmith: Great weapon, rune of stone, rune of spell breaking. Dwarf Core (350pts): 20 Longbeards: Banner and musician. Great weapons. Strollaz rune. Rune of Sanctuary. Dwarf Special (275pts): Cannon: Master Rune of Disguise, rune of forging, rune of burning. Gyrocopter: Steam gun, vanguard Dwarf Rare (125pts) Gyrobomber
It looks fun to me, so anything else is optional... ...but I'd suggest bringing more Skinks, and the Dwarf bringing more shooting. Use your Skinks to keep your opponents busy in the middle of the field, while your buddy's shooting takes them down. If you have 1 combat block each, I think that will be enough. Of course, this does depend on your ability to make clever use of Skinks. If you can't keep the enemy pinned down with them, they'll just brush the Skinks off and go for the targets that count.
ive been thinking of doing the same combo too, lizzies and dwarves. and exactly like Lawot said. Gunline + skink MSU list -> shooting & redirecting kitted out oldblood or pimped out slann on the side plus 1-2 combat blox
I did something similar years ago, though the points size of the game was much higher, so I'm not sure if any of it applies. Also that was under the old books for both armies. We pretty much steamrolled everybody, mountains of dispel dice with the Slanns +4 to dispel. Then we had lots of extra power dice from the Slann. Anything we couldn't magic away got blasted by the cannons. Then they had to deal with a Temple Guard/Hammerer one two punch. the best way to get synergy at low levels is probably going Skink/dinosaru heavy for the LM and great weapon troop/artillery heavy on the Dwarf side.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's going to be really good fun. At first I was a little underwhelmed by the thought of teaming with Dwarfs but actually the two armies complement each other pretty well. Minus some decent heavy cavalry we've got most things covered. The list has evolved somewhat since my initial post. More artillery and more magic is probably the best way to describe it: Thane BSB: MroGrungni. Shield Runesmith: RoSpellbreaking. RoStone. Skink priest Lvl 2: heavens. Dispel scroll. Skink priest Lvl 1: beasts. Cube of darkness. 19 longbeards: standard bearer. GWs 30 Saurus: full command. Shields and HWs 10 skink skirmishers: blowpipes 10 skink skirmishers: javelins and shields Cannon: RoForging Grudgethrower: RoAccuracy, RoBurning. Gyrocopter: Vanguard 3 Terradon riders: fire leech bolas Bastilodon with solar engine. Unfortunately we can't actually fit a Slann into the list because our 2000pts has to be 2 legal 1000pt armies. So we've opted for 2 skink priests. A level 1 beast and a level 2 heavens. Between the 2 priests and the runelord we've got 3 dispel scrolls. A Bastiladon adds a guaranteed 'kill spell' to the magic mix. I think with this mix we should be able to give as good we get even if someone rocks out a lord level mage (which shouldn't be heavily kitted out). I like the idea of taking an extra unit of skink skimishers maybe at the expense of a few Saurus. The longer we can frustrate the enemy before they reach our infantry blocks/heavy guns the better. Plus Skinks are going to be useful in stopping any flyers getting to the artillery - another plus. It's a shame to lose the scar vet though. Thanks again!!
Decent list. I have not read the new Dwarf book so I do not know how good the gyrocopter is, but my instinct is to say drop the gyrocopter for more longbeards. Dwarf infantry is very potent, so it'd be a shame not to use the advantage you can there. Dwarf infantry is potent but they win combats over the bodies of their own dead. 19 longbeards doesn't give you many bodies to spare. ESPECIALLY since you have no fighty character, you want to make sure not to skimp on close combat hitting power. I don't see a gyrocopter bringing much to table that your other units won't do. Charging enemy warmachines? You can charge them with Terradons or shoot them with the cannon Thinning out enemy troops with the flame template? You have a souped up grudge thrower and 20 poisoned shooters for that niche.
now ive wanted to use something like this if we use the 1000+1000 points Saurus Oldblood general + halberd,AoDestiny,Dawnstone,CO Skink Priest lvl 2 + Dispel Scroll Skink Priest lvl 1 + Cube (annoying that u cant fit another lvl2) 6 Groups of Skink skirmishers with javelins Salamander + handler Thane BSB + shield,RoStone 30 Dwarf warriors+shields Cannon Cannon Cannon Organ Gun Organ Gun
@Scalenex: I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the gyrocopter. I suspect it's a consequence of what my buddy has available to him because his army is quite new and also he doesn't really like painting infantry . I think more Longbeard would create a more robust army. I haven't played against gyrocopters (new or old) so I might be missing something. I'll see what he says. @Rantapanda: That would be a mental list :-D!! It's be so much fun to play. Alas our army's just don't have enough of the constituent units to pull it off. There is a certain amount we can paint beforehand but I fear this would be a stretch to far (unless I gave up work and didn't see anyone for a few weeks - sounds tempting). Maybe next time1
If models are a constraint for Ranta Panda list, drop the Organ Guns and take the gyrocopter you opponent seems to love. Organ Guns work on the principle that the opponents have to come to you. In a game where LM are proactively advancing, Organ Guns are slightly less useful.
