    Alright, so I'm starting to cave in on my "stick with two armies only" self rule and have been looking at Beastmen as a potential third army, however, I'd like to get some play testing done and I haven't the ability to go to the game store any time soon to check the boxes out. What I'm looking for is information on the base sizes of, for example, the Beast Herds, Ungors and Gors, as well as Beastigors and the Beastmen characters. I need to know if they are Saurus Warrior base size, or Skink base size. The rest of the army is pretty obvious to me on base sizes, its just those that I named that I am not sure about.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    All beastmen infantry are based on the larger infantry (saurus) bases. But I wouldnt go too crazy buying units as beasts are the next army to be released in the begining of 2010 and alot of them are getting new models (new minotaurs and bestigors!!), not to mention the current beasts book sucks (imo).

    Oh, I won't be buying any models till they get their new look and new book. I was just going to use Lizardmen Models I own to proxy to see how the play style works. I own Tomb Kings as well, so can playtest against them...or just against Lizardmen. I thank you very much for that information, I was having a really hard time figuring out the base size from the Army Book's pictures.

    I think most people come up with house rules to negate this, but remember in 7th ed now skirmishers do not negate ranks and all beasts are skirmishers, since they used to in 6th ed. I believe (could be wrong) that their book says they must rank up 4 wide, which doesn't even give them a rank bonus now. They were kinda screwed between 6th and 7th ed, so they really aren't that great at the moment.

    I'm not sure if the release has been confirmed or not yet, everyone is skaven crazy, but yeah they are rumoured to be coming soon so I would definitely not even consider them until they get close to rerelease. Remember the army could change quite dramatically, especially since chaos has been split into 3 independant armies that cannot mix and warriors of chaos have several of the units that used to be in the beast book. Who knows what GW will do with them.

    I believe the chaos spawn is on a 50mm base (carni), and yeah all the infantry are on 25mm.

    Yeah, I was reading the FAQ's that were updated for the Beastmen and pretty much what I got from it was "Too bad, you're SOL, good luck playing."

    I just felt the desire to pick them up to play for some reason. I suppose I need to play an actual evil army to balance out my other two. Lizardmen are my Good guys, Tomb Kings are my...Neutral guys, and Beastmen can be my Bad guys.

    I played beastmen in 6th, and touched them with some paper-hammer in 7th. At the time I was trying to play a "weaker" army to challenge myself.

    With the huge gap in power from most 7th edition books compared to 6th, I felt the beastmen would be fun to try again.

    In 6th I liked their mobility and sneaky/fun special rules, the fact they got rank bonus up to +2 I think, and could negate ranks really, REALLY, helped. They were definately a really fun army to play as, and I found them to have more interesting army wide rules then mortals or daemons.

    In a 7th edition situation, they aren't exactly beardy. In fact lazy high or dark elf lists, lazy VC lists, etc, will be a challenge. It takes 120% skill/effort to still be effective. So good idea waiting until the new book.

    As a side note, most fair players will allow your gor/ungor squads to go 5 wide, and get your 2 ranks regardless of the fact that the book says you rank up 4 wide. It only specifically said 4 wide, to get the rank bonus, so it would make sense that it would be 5 wide now. If your opponent doesn't let you make this slight unofficial edit ;

    A. It's a tournament and you simply have to play at a disadvantage.

    B. They are afraid of your skills/army and need to look for every advantage to win.

    C. They are complete @$$h0L3s who are addicted to winning by large margins.
    (start refusing to play these people)

    So if you wanna playtest, good luck to you. Just don't do it in a tournament cause you'll be fighting in a wheelchair, with one arm, one eye, in your underwear, with a wooden sword.

    Yea a few months ago a warhammer veteran brought his beasts army to a tournament and I cleaned him off the table within 4 turns with vampires. lol He said his beasts are going back in the closet till the new book comes out.
