Hello, I am starting out with Warhammer for the first time and am trying to put together my first core army for as little $$ as possible while still being as effective as possible. I don't own any units or any hobby/craft items at all yet. So based on this lists belowI was hoping to purchase 2 Regiment boxes, 1 skink priest and 2 salamander blisters. This also gives me 20 TG and 16 COC to use in larger matches. TG especially is useful for when I get a slann Another option that is available is converting some skirmishers into chams. I have looked at a few threads about this and I reckon I could pull off that amount of modeling. Thanks for any input, suggestions and ideas of tactics is very very welcome. Sorry for the long post. Heroes: Saurus Scar-Vet (with Saurus Unit 1) 85 Light arm +Shield + BSB Skink priest – General 65pts Lvl 2 + Dispel Scroll Core: 19 Saurus Warriors: (5x4) +bearer +musician 19 Saurus Warriors: (5x4) +bearer +musician 10 Skink Skirm 10 Skink Skirm Special: 1 Salamander Hunting Pack + Extra Handler 1 Salamaner Hunting Pack + Extra Handler TOTAL: 997 Potential Alternate Unit: Heroes: Saurus Scar-Vet (with Saurus Unit ) 85 Light arm +Shield + BSB Skink priest – General 65pts Lvl 2 + plaque of Tepok Core: 31 Saurus Warriors: (6x5) +bearer +musician + champ 10 Skink Skirm 10 Skink Skirm Special: 1 Salamander Hunting Pack + Extra Handler 1 Salamaner Hunting Pack + Extra Handler 7 Chameleons TOTAL: 996 I'd just have to source 7 additional skinks for remodeling. I understand the hobby is a little expensive, just trying to get best bang for buck for my first core purchase. For Priest options are: Diadem of Power, Plaque of Topek or Dispel Scroll. I would think one of the first two would be more useful in the long run then a single dispel scroll? Also: Spears or HW + Shield for the saurus? (I am currently researching this now) And Jav+shield or blow dart skink skirms.
I say the second list. The chameleon skinks are extremely useful, I would suggest converting up some of your existing skinks to that purpose, even if it means getting rid of one of your regular skink skirmisher units. Also at this points level, I would suggest going for 2 units of saurus instead of the 1. Find a way to get a couple cheap magic items on the scar-vet, you could give him the crown of command and put him in a smaller saurus unit to make it stubborn. Also note, Salamanders are rare choices, but as far as the points go you are fine. Saurus, definitely HW+SH and for skink skirmishers I prefer the blowpipes, some swear by the javelins.
there is no way I can get any more items on the Scar-vet. Hero's points are at 245 total out of 250 allowable. I will have enough models to try both lists out or variations of at least. Should do me fine for now. Now to get them lol. +paint + brushes + flock + green stuff + snippers + scalpel + heaps of other stuff. Not a cheap hobby. Better than computer games though (not price wise but entertainment value)
Got my first 16 saurus warriors off ebay last night. Why does the UK have to be 9hrs behind me. waking up at 5am for an auction is not the greatest thing lol. Least I could do it on my iPhone. To Buy: 1 Battalion Pack 2 Salamander Hunting Packs 1 Skink Regiment 1 Skink Priest. Thinking of converting a TG into my scar vet. Don't think I could do a good conversion from norm skink to skink priest. Aiming for list 2 first.
Now own: 1 Skink Priest 32 Saurus Skinks and Sallies to come. Another List: Friendly/compeitionish Heroes: Skink priest – General Lvl 2 + Diadem of Power + Cloak of Feathers Core: 30 Saurus Warriors: (6x5) HW + S Full Command 10 Skink Skirm Javs + Shields 10 Skink Skirm Jav + Shields Special: 7 Chameleons 7 Chameleons Rare: 1 Salamander Hunting Pack + Extra Handler 1 Salamaner Hunting Pack + Extra Handler TOTAL: 992 Trying to make the skink priest highly maneuverable for heavens lore (lots of LOS + close range spells) and also add to my dispel power. Saurus block basically just walks into position while chams work on warmachines + characters. Skirmishers try to redirect or provide softening to units. Sallies walk in and destroy blocks of infantry (hopefully). Try to mitigate ranged damage through the chams and skirmishers. Any thoughts?
