For my first couple of games I'm going to be playing (relatively) low point costs and I am going to eschew magical items on my Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnosaur. I'm deciding how to build the kit and was wondering what the opinion of more experienced generals would be on the Hand Weapon vs Halberd vs Spear would be? What gives best bang for the points? I was thinking of taking an Oldblood with a Halberd, Shield and Light Armor on a Carnosaur with Loping Stride.
Re: Best Non Magical Weapon for a Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnos Definitely halberd or great weapon for me. Hand weapon is pointless, as there's no parry while mounted, and the spear only works on the charge. I was thinking along the same lines of keeping it cheap with regards to magic items, but in your setup i'd probably take either then enchanted or charmed shield as they're barely any more points anyway.
Re: Best Non Magical Weapon for a Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnos Spears are nice and cheap and a Carnosaur should be getting the charge most of the time anyway right?
Re: Best Non Magical Weapon for a Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnos +1 for great weapon and +1 for enchanted shield with low ini, you would anyhow get the last strike, but what a strike that will be...
Re: Best Non Magical Weapon for a Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnos Spear and halberd are the same points, and the +1S in every turn wins out vs. the +1 save from the shield for me, especially as there are plenty of ways to get his save up if you want to
Re: Best Non Magical Weapon for a Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnos My preference is halberd and charmed shield. I like the boosted strength more than the shield bonus but the charmed shield is only 1 pt more than a regular shield and means a lucky cannonball won't take out both rider and mount, which is nice. You might lose the carnosaur, but at least you still have a nasty scar-vet running around who can actually put a hurt on plenty of things. Or have him join a saurus/TG unit to add some power.
Re: Best Non Magical Weapon for a Oldblood/Scarvet on Carnos I'll weigh in and say great weapon wins it in my book. You can then take any of the magical heavy armors that also give him a ward save, without needing a shield. Or if you prefer striking first, take a halberd for strength 6 all the time at his initiative.
