yeah, an unlikely alliance has been struck between Ogres and the Warriors of Chaos, and I need to get my game-face on; Problem is; I have always been secure in my Magic Phases, wether with High Elves or Lizardmen, but recently those Ogres have been a thorn in my side, and with Warriors of Chaos Backing them, I am only left to wonder what I will do with my Slann. With an abundance of cannons onboth Ogre and Chaos side, my slann is vulnerable, but I can't risk losing my absolute dominance over the magic-phase by exchanging one of the two disciplines I always use (Focus of Mystery and the Focussed Ruminition.) I can choose to add one, or two, or give him a magic Item. so here's my challenge; find a way to improve my Slann in an alliance battle against Chaos and Ogres. Points per army; 2000. My current Slann build is as follows 1 Slann Disciplines =Focus of Mystery, Focussed Ruminition Currently empty on magic Items So do your best and make it work ^W^
I would make the slann Etheral. I know that the Ogre's cannon cannot touch him, but I am not sure about the WoC cannon. If it is considered a magical attack, then you need the plaque of protections as well. I would also take Cupped Hands of the Old ones. I never leave home without it. If you are adding the discipline, great. If not, you should drop Mystery before Rumination. Rumination is way too important to do without.
Hello, It Depends, weather You run your Slann Solo or in TG. But one thing is Sure, Cupped hands are very usefull, especially, withe dreaded HellHeart or Infernal Puppet. Our item counters them both nicely. When I run my Slann Solo I Use this build: Slann BSB With banner of swiftness -Rummination -Cogitation -Etheral -Divine plaque of Protection -Plaque of Tepok The Plaque of Tepok gives me 5 Spells so i always have the spell that i Need and its 35 points Cheaper than the Discipline. Or There is a Funny build Slann BSB warbanner -Etheral -Rummination -Crown of Comand Turbo blocker
I tried a new build last weekend and really enjoyed how it played. Slann BSB (banner of descipline)-Lore of Light Rumination (+1 die) Mystery (loremaster) Etheral Cupped hands Crown of Command I bunkered that Slann in a unit of Saurus warriors. 49 saurus warriors with one scar-vet to help out with challenges. I ran the unit 5 wide (to keep the slann in the second rank), then when I made it into combat, I reformed into a horde formation for more attacks. This unit worked so well, that I will continue to use it for a little while to see how I like it. Next time, I will take spears on the saurus to get all the attacks that I can. Lore of Life would really work well with this unit as well.
Wait... In Saurus -Warriors- o.0 ... What weapons did they wield? Spears or Handweapons? And does the slann still only occupy Second Rank or does he have to come forward? ... I am so confused but very interested build. ^_^ If you enjoyed it so much, I might want to give it a go too, and finally have all my 50 Saurus Warriors in for once ^_^ though I will have to leave my precious TG at home, this (hopefully) frees up some space for Cold Ones, Cham-skinks or something other nasty ^^
The two times that I have used it so far, they were both hand weapons and shields. I think it would be interesting to use spears to get the extra attacks though. When the formation was 5 wide, the slann was in the second rank, when the formation went to 10 wide, he has to go in the front rank.
Loving the scar vet, slann, saurus combo. Slann, life, rumination, mystery, becalming, plaque of protection, diadem of power,bsb,standard of disipline This is the slann I run in my monster heavy 2000 pt list. I am quite happy with how he has performed so far and have won about 7out of 9 games since changing o this build.
I have another question regarding this one, because I really wanna try this out; here's my question; what build was the Scar Vet, and what was the build of the rest of the army? ... Just as a general guide-line on what I'm going to field ^_^;;
I looked for the list I used with 49 saurus, but could not find it. I did find another list that I used after that one. It looks like this: 2250 pts Lord: Slann BSB (standard of discipline) Cupped hands of the old ones Obsidian Trinket (MR1) Crown of Command Focus of Mystery Higher State of Consciousness The Focused Ruminiation Becalming Cogitation Lore Of Light Heroes: On the use of 3 skink priests. These guys were only used to control the magic phases during my game. I think I only used one of the priests spells in the entire game. The cube ended a magic phase early on and the dispel scroll stopped a drop in the toughness of the saurus unit, which helped to end that phase. The rod helped add 3-4 dice to a power pool of 6. Skink Priest1 lvl2 cube of darkness Skink Priest2 lvl2 dispel scroll Skink priest3 lvl2 (optional as this guy will probably die anyway) forbidden rod (d6 added to power pool, d3 wounds to priest) Opal Amulet (4+ ward vs first wound) In this game, it didn't matter, he took 3 wounds and died. Scarvet Hand weapon shield armor of destiny (4+ ward) This guy goes into the saurus unit to protect the slann from any challenges. Core: Saurus warriors x42 full command, hand weapons and shields Skink skirmishers x10 javelin and shield (I just prefer to have a little protection from the parry save, not that it really helps) Special: Chameleon Skinks x 6 Chameleon Skinks x 6 Terradon riders x 4 Rare: Salamander x2 (without extra handlers) Salamander x 2 (without extra handlers)
wow... Simply wow. The battle was nigh iconic. I used a slann with Lore of Light Focus of Mystery, The focussed Rumination and Higher State of Consciousness Cupped Hands of the Old Ones and Standard of Discipline. I put him in a unit of 20 Templeguards. I also took with me a Saurus hero with the sword that has -2 armoursave and shield of the mirrored pool, as well as light armour. The unit that I went wow about were the Saurus Warriors; I outfitted them with spears and shields instead of Sword and Shield for the extra rank of attacks. Launching that amount of Attacks was devastating, when Hitting at 3+ with rerolls, at S4, and an extra attack for the first rank devastated an Ogre Deathstar in a single turn while my TG and Sallies were busy bbq-ing Chaos Warriors. With a single group of 10 skinks chasing and hunting down the Warshrine and taking that out of commision by turn 3, and a number of small hunting groups, of which 1 on terradons taking down the Ogre stone-thrower the match had become so one-sided they surrendered at the end of lizardmen turn 3. I was allied with Skaven and they held up the Mournfang Cavalry and Chaos Knights for long enough for me to take the entire centre of the board. I will definitely use Lore of Light more often now against these high-profile armies like Chaos and Ogres, it was not even a battle, but a bloodbath. I can only immagine what would have happened if I had brought my Stegadons to bear on the enemy, and my Cold Ones.
