Your cold one scar-vet has a very unusual set up, Burning Blade + Enhanted shield / maiming shield, Sword of Might + Enchanted shield / maiming shield or Sword of battle + maiming shield are much better set ups imo, especially the burning blade + ES is good in a competative environment with hydras, abominations, varghulves and other big scary monsters with regen. You lack close combat specialists tho, dopping a scar vet and something else for a unit or two of 12 spear saurus would provide much needed support in the close combat phase. Also you can't have both Plaque of Tepoc and the Rod of Storm, both are arcane items. Other than that it looks very competative and should do well against most lists.
Thanks for the advice. I was sure plaque was an enchanted item. Phirana blade is just as good as a burning blade against regen creatures. (burning blade ignores regen, phirana does 2 wounds against a 4+ regen roll, = statisticaly identical), I admit the extra armor piercing is hard to lose but most regen creatures dont have high armor. However Phirana does amazing things againts multi wound creatures and is fantastic for challenges. I have had my Cold one hold off ranked blocks by himself because he could easly get huge over kill in duels.
ignore 4+ save and 2x wounds and a 4+ save are ot statistically identical, they would be if pirnha blade caused 2 wounds it would be, but a saved wound from this blade cancelles 2 wounds, while casuing only 1 wound with the BBoC causes 1 wound 100% of the time, and this for every wound caused, the wounds from the piranha blade can be saved. also, in challenges, unless against unit champions for the overkill, characters either have a good save or are wizards wich probably die from any attack in meele. overall i think the BBoC is better against anything but things like giants & co. that have lots of wounds but no save, even stegaons can get in that category for their 3+/4+ saves that becomes 5+/6+ against S5. personal opinion
Hydras have a 4+ scaly where AP is great, treemen are another good example where the BBoC is way better, against regular rank and file or knights the BBoC is awesome, and people can just decline challanges so you don't get any overkill. Most multiwound creatures can be easily dealth with by poison anyway. You are free to chose whatever weapon you prefer and I like that you have your own unique preferences but the general consensus is that BBoC is way better than the piranha blade.
I'd pick BBoC over the Piranha myself. Against high armor targets it is a huge boon. Not just big monsters either, but against Dwarf and Warriors of Chaos (and some other) heroes in challenges, etc. Not to mention you can save 15 points with the BBoC. If you wanted you could drop that 15 points down on the Maiming Shield over the Enchanted and get one extra attack. That is statistically better (offensively) than your current setup and still gives you a 1+ save. 5 S5 attacks plus 1 S4 attack, 4 with -2 to armor and flaming is, to me, much better than 4 S5 and 1 S4 with 4 having a chance to double wounds with no armor bonus and a chance to be ignored completely by regen.
Thanks Guys. I will give BBoC + shield of maiming a try. What would be your opinions of putting the enchanted shield on the Jag vet? It's better for shooting defence and if he uses his hand weapon he gets AR 1 in close combat.
Seems like a good envestment. Since your guy is on foot you could opt to go hw/sh in stead of gw if you don't need high strength or AP. That'll give you some decent armour and a little more versatility to your character for not much more points.
