Okay so as the title implies, I'm brand new to warhammer and looking for some advice. I just picked my rule book up about a week ago and have decided to play lizarmen. I was wondering if i could get some help making a army list. I got my army book today but I'm not sure how to go about with the points system. The local hobby store suggested i make a 1000 point army to start out with. And so that's where I'm at. I made up a small roster with alot of saurus warriors and some skinks but I'm not sure what to upgrade them as. Also what would make a good hero for the army? I was thinking saurus scar veteran. Anyways any help would be great. And feel free to let me know about tactics
Honestly, unless you're going to be at some top level table in some super competitive tournament, you can pretty much do well and have fun with ANY army list you make. Just take things you think look nice or want to play with, because when you're at mid level the tiny little details that make things "better" really don't matter. The real thing with an army list is learning how to play it properly, not exactly what you take Try reading the huge section on tactics after you decide what models you want to play with, and you'll have a fine time. Personally I just kind of throw a couple of blocks of saurus with some skink skirmishers and a skink priest and I have fun every time. Though, the other day I did throw all of my saurus into a giant horde with spears and they did really well.
Lol nice, well my army list so far is this lord choice is saurus old blood with biting blade, light armor, shield, and dawnstone 16 saurus warriors full command 16 saurus warriors full command both untis with spears btw 10 skink skirmisher with brave 10 more skink skirmisher with brave 3 kroxigor these are by far my fav models So that whole little list is about 1000 points Any advice on improvements or anything not legal lol. Thx for the feedback, oh and also can i put my lord in one of the saurus warriors groups?
Not only can you put your lord in one of your blocks, but you can bounce him around between your blocks if you wanted to. He can leave and join units as he pleases just like any normal character. So if the unit you initially housed him in has gone to $*#* you can just ditch it for a shiny new one Your list seems pretty legal from what I can tell, you have no repeated magic items, and your points values are in the proper %'s so it's all good
Oh wow that's pretty cool, I didn't know that. thx for all the help. I think ill try this army. I was reading in tactics about kroxigor and read you can put them in a unit with skinks? How would that work exactly
They just go in the second rank. I believe there is an entire page in the book dedicated to it? (Page 41) I think it's something like 1 kroxigor can go in per 12 skinks. I don't' know much about them cause I don't actually have kroxigor models, so uhh yeah, I hope that helps
In small points games I think Kroxigors probably work fine on their own. One thing, skink Braves don't really add much. You could save some points there to put into other things. Another thing about your saurus blocks, when they're two blocks of 16, I expect you're fielding them in a 4X4 formation. Without ranks of five, they don't get any rank bonus for Combat Resolution, so you'll want to field them in a 5x3 formation with one just tagging along behind. Likely because that's how many come in a box, and it's a bit of a bother, but eventually you'll want to bump them up to two units of 20, or smash them together into a unit of 30, set up 6x5. So, if you cut down on your braves, I might also switch the Oldblood for just a cheaper but still pretty bad-ass Scar-Veteran and then add in a cheap Skink Priest. That way, you're not missing out on an entire Magic Phase every turn of the game, but you're also learning how the magic phase works which can be a big part of the game. You can just put a great weapon and light armour on the Scar-Vet and he's quite the beast. That's kind of how I started when I was re-learning the game for 8th Edition after a few years away from the table. Welcome to the hobby, and the Lizardmen forum! We're pretty awesome - we have dinosaurs.
My army is with 3 kroxigor, 27 skinks (standard bearer, Musician) and a skink cheif (hero) the advantage of this is the skinks can soak up the hits with the kroxigor bashing through and with a hero or lots of small hits. This really makes a dilemma for the opposition and they are literally unique and really fun! lots of people aren't a fan of kroxigor and downgrade them, I really like them and will DEFIANTLY have them in every army list. it just ads a change. If you want to how they are ranked up there is an Image here in this link http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bu4x13cLJlo/TIvn3OcKgAI/AAAAAAAAAlE/ReK6906jcys/s1600/IMG_1439.JPG IMO this really works well
Well regular skinks are just like any other unit, except they have to take javelins and shields. Skirmishers gain all the special rules that come a long with being a skirmisher, such as -1 when shooting at them and free movement reforms, and they can also opt to take blowpipes instead of javelins.
Okay so here's my new updated list Lord choice Saurus old blood with additional hand weapon, biting blade, dawnstone, light armor, shield core units 2 groups of 16 saurus warriors full command 2 units of 12 skink skirmishers i left the skink braves in just cause the extra points special units are the 3 kroxigors So in total its lord 204pts core is 624pts special 165 pts Hows this army sound guys?
So if i were to put the kroxigor into a skink unit could i use skirmishers? Or would they not get those bonuses?
Kroxigors cannot join unit of skirmishers because they don't have the skirmisher special rule. They can only go into ranked skinks.
Also, you'd be better off with a shield than an extra weapon, and I guess you could make a kroxigor ancient to fill some points
The problem is, if you have a magic weapon AND a regular one you have to attack exclusively with your magic one
