Alright, so it seems that I'm going to regularly be facing off against Bretonnians, tonight's game being one of them. I just had pretty much my entire force either bulldozed or in the case of my Cold One Cav, rendered useless by poor positioning on my part. I know how to fix my Cold One Cav tactics somewhat...but what do I do with the rest of my army, how can I deal with the freight train that keeps wiping me out in a 1k battle? Magic is something I know would help, but being that its only 1k, I only have skink priests available to me and as such, could very likely roll nothing but Portent and Amul. Do I go defensive and try to shoot them to death with a full unit of salamanders?
One thing to remember about Bretonnians is they are extremely predictable. They are going to charge you with all they can and try to break through on the charge. There isn't going to be anything fancy, they go straight at you into combat. On the charge, they are very deadly. In a long combat? They are useless. So you need to use terradons to march block and slow them down, use skirmishing skinks out the front to bait them as well. Place the skinks up forward and when they charge you, flee. This leaves them a bit out of place and allows your other units that were hopefully behind the skinks (but just out of charge range) able to charge him. It is a fairly obvious tactic, but he can't really do anything about it since you should be better at range. He won't sit back and be shot at.
Thanks for that suggestion, I didn't position my skink screen in front of my CoR too well...judging distance is still not my strong point. By turn two, my teammate and myself had had 3 full (mine was a unit of 15 spears, his two were a unit of 15 temple guard and 17 Saurus warriors with HW&S) units of Saurus warriors wiped out by the Bretonnians.
