So there is no word what-so-ever about them getting a makeover or something? They seem a bit on the weak side in my opinion and I refuse to abandon my knights and horsies Although, I guess it would be nice to build up my lizardmen army and move on to my dwarfs anyways what does everyone think about this subject and what are your opinions of the Bretonnian Army itself.
While its a shame that they won't be getting a new book for a while, maybe not even until after 8th edition is released, the book still works fine. Bretonnia is a very powerful army if played right, and old armys usually tend to slip under the comp radar when evreyone is focusing on some new atrocity (cough, abomination, cough). The biggest problem they have is that they are weak against anything that doesn't break on the charge, and both deamons and VC are pretty popular. Iirc the australian masters was won by a bretonnian player. Hopefully they fix the armies that are the worst first, BoC is getting a new book very soon and TK are on their way (even tho they are at about the same powerlevel as bretonnia imo). I just hope Ogre Kingdoms new book is coming soon, because their current one is a joke.
IMO bretonians are a very powerful army, they can wipe out armies in one charge. However they are very hit and miss, what it boils down to with them is they get the charge they usually win, they fail the charge they usually lose. Don't think they in as dire a need for a book update though, as TK and OK are, they need a new book BAAAD.
I found them very one-dimensional and a little boring to play when I had the army. People always say they are powerful, but the reality is they are very forgiving to new players with their decent leadership, fantastic armour, good speed and powerful charge. Two new players will often see the Brets win more often. Against very experienced players who know how to deal with Brets, it can actually be quite hard to win. If they are to become a more popular army, they need another dimension. While foot knights would be awesome, that may not be the solution as it will make them even more similar to the Empire. And yeah it doesn't look like they will get an update for a fair while.
In my playing career, i used brets only twice. both times, i lost horribly. (mainly because i used a non-horseman charge tactic) so, it could have been my novice level of playing with that particular race, or something else entirely. As for facing them, i love taking a Slann if its 2k or more, and taking lore of Beasts, then i can cast Beast Cowers and make their most potent cavalry stop dead in their tracks, just before the charge, maneuver out of the way, and flank them. as for new books, i got the OK when it came out, and hated it instantly. OK definitely needs a new, better book. as for TK, i think thye work fairly well, maybe they could get one or two buffs, but not much,.
According to rumour, TK are confirmed to be coming next.. They are a very cool looking army and deserve to be good, I think they are very competative when used properly but they are somewhat hard to master. They also simply pale next to the new VC. OK definitely need som help.
hmmmm yeah thats a hard question. Bretonnians are a powerful army with strong men, lords are good to lead charges and take out quite a bit of greenskins. The green knight WILL help heps if you wish to carry on with this army. But I think it will be good to give it a go and start a lizardmen army
