Hello everyone. I'm new to the lizardmen army and could use a little help on building a 2000 point army, preferably before I start buying individual models/boxes. What I like the most about the lizardmen army is the wide variety of monsters, slann mages and their lore. The army should be able to have a strong magic phase that supports the army and make it as hard as possible for my enemies to benefit from their own magic phases. The armies it will be up against mainly are High Elves, Skaven, Chaos dwarves (K'daai, magma cannons), chaos warriors and dark elves. I love to include a few monsters if possible (a stampede of enraged dinosaurs that crushes into the ranks of my enemies comes to mind). So I started making a list of my own. Too bad I had to skip out on most of the monsters. slann - Reservoir of eldritch energy - harmonic convergence - soul of stone / becalming cogitation - Focus of mystery (Lore of .?.) / wandering deliberations - channeling staff - standard of discipline - cube of darkness Tetto'eko Scar vet - cold one - light armour , shield - halberd - dragonhelm - dawnstone Skink priest - 1x dispel scroll - wizard lvl 1 (beasts) 30 saurus warriors - spawn leader - FC 2x 10 skink skirmischers 20 temple guard - revered guardian 2x salamander hunting pack - additional handler 3 ripperdactyl riders Any feedback is welcome. Also, because I'm sure theres people out here that are more experienced with the army. If you would know a different set-up that fits better with the general idea. I'd very much would like to hear it!
Drop the resevoir on your slann and take soul of stone and becalming both! Normally you would like to spend all your dice! As you now you are allowed to take one arcane item so take channeling staff! 3D6 channel on 5+! Oh and take high magic Secondly drop the shield on your scar veteran, because you already have a 1+ armoursave without the shield! Maybe you can swap the halberd for a great weapon! If you don't have a cohort unit for tetto'eko i should replace him for something like a bastiladon!
Your core is not the minimum 25%. I would add full command to your Temple guard, they need to be in combat. Personally I would tone down on the slann
A Great Weapon is good for Str 7, but I've been finding that the Gold Sigil Sword is really nice against Elfs. 1+ rerolling armor will keep you alive vs their shooting and without their rerolls, Elfs don't put up much of a fight in close combat. Since you have to drop the Cube (or at least, you *should* drop the cube in favor of the staff) that would pay for the Sigil Sword as well as give you some points to get a Standard in your TG unit.
Exactly 500 points, so 25%... 30 saurus with full command and 2x10 skirmishers is 360+70ss=500 Building armies on a single enemy is not the best you can do, secondly, even if you have I10 they have always strike first (ye without re-roll maybe). That's why i think that great weapon is much more effective!
I made sure that the min core was 25% although I've seen many lists that have more skinks in them. Accidently overlooked that the channeling staff was an arcane item and considered it as a normal weapon. So yes, Cube will have to go (or to another character). Is a full combat / close range army with a lower magic support also a viable choice for a 2k army? (oldblood on carnosaur as a lord for example instead of the slann) Problem is, theres so many good choices out there. But right now I'm only looking to get my first piece of my collection going
the "easy" list is the Slann list, but depending on your niche you might very well be better at playing with a carno who knows? The carno brings other stuff to the table, sadly being squishy as hell is one of them, but it looks cool, and packs a helluva punch. Then again, 2K might be a bit too low, 2.4 i'd start considering it more.
In favor of more dinosaurs / monsters, I came up with the following list. Again, all the comments/suggestions/feedback will be highly appreciated. I've got a feeling it will be the closest I can get to a real monster army with 2000 points. I certainly am a fan of the stegadon. However, if I dropped a priest, I could change a bastiladon for another stegadon. But not sure if this would be either a good or bad exchange. The whole solar engine sounds like a neat thing. Or maybe drop a priest for more Terradon riders? So far, I don't think an engine of the gods would be of great value in this list. Any thoughts on that? Because of the advice mentioned in an earlier post I went ahead with a slann instead of a scarnosaur lord (I believe this is what you call them). Made him ethereal to skip out on the TG. (points spent on more dino's) Would fielding the priests in the skirmishers units be a good idea? Lord ================================== slann - becalming cogitation - harmonic convergence - focus of mystery - higher state of consciousness - channeling staff - battle standard bearer Core (25% min) ================================== 30 saurus warriors - spawn leader - FC 10 Skink Skirmishers - blowpipes > lustrian javelins and shields 10 Skink Skirmishers - blowpipes > lustrian javelins and shields Heroes ================================== Skink priest - dispell scroll Skink priest - cube of darkness Special ================================== 3x Terradon riders Stegadon - unstoppable stampede - sharpened horns Bastiladon - solar engine Bastiladon - solar engine Rare ================================== 2x salamander hunting pack - extra handler
I would consider upgrading the stegadon to an ancient stegadon and dropping the unstoppable stampede upgrade. The extra boost to S really helps on a unit that relies so much on impact hits and thunderstomps. The price difference between the two is basically nothing too. I wouldn't bother giving it the Engine though, just keep the blowpipes. The rest of the list looks pretty solid though, I like it. Regarding the priests, starting them off with the skirmishers is a good idea but don't be afraid the move them out on their own or close to another unit (a 4+ LoS is nothing to be sniffed at). Just keep them safe until they have used their scroll up.
