Hello. After roughly 10 games with 7th edition, time has come to pick up on 8th edition. All of my ten games was played with Lord on a Carnosaur - This work pretty well for me. But now when new rules such as TLOS, and the fact that magic and shooting has become even nastier against targets as my loved Lord on his Carno, I've decidded to bring back the old frog, for some ton of fun... I hope. First, I must say I already played a 2250p game with the Slann with Lore of Light. I had some bad luck, and when I did a small test with the Slann and TG charging a Chaos Nurgle unit the bad luck turned into epic fail. However, the Slann and the list has potential. Now I've spend a couple of weeks, changing my new list back and fort. I've picked up some nice tricks and tactics from this forum - So thank you very much for that. Which has finally led to my finished list which looks like this: Slann: The Focus Rumination, The Becalming Cogitation, Focus of Mystery, Unfatomble Presence, Bane Head, Feedback Scroll, and BSB. - The Becalming is a must, as it saves me getting hammered from IF on spells who is simply evil against Lizzies. On top of that, it further crumples your opponents magicphase which I like. - As much the Becalming is a must so is The Focus Rumination, those extra free dices makes the world to me. - Focus of Mystery grants me all the spells which dosn't make me sweat over which I might get and not. although I did consider to skip it and then get the tepok for an extra spell. - Unfatomble presence has been chosen as much for the protection of the Slann as well as its abillity to affect the unit he is with - Omg its a hidden banner! - The Bane Head and Feedback Scroll trick, I've picked up here. It sounds like fun and even with Wardsave and Regen on opponents Wizards I think it has a fair chance to make him go complete pale - Not just offwhite. - The BSB is simple to not make my other units run, as they are intented to soak up the first few charge impacts. And for heavens sake the Slann must not run! Skink Priest: lvl 1 Instead of +1 lvl, Dispel Scroll, and EotG. - This one is a nobrainer with Portent of warding and the Alignment. My only maybe is the +1lvl, not sure if I would keep that. Scar Vet: Great Weapon, Glittering Scales, and Venom of the Fire Frog. 20 Temple Guards with full cmd. Champ with glittering scales. - This is where the Slann works his magic. A great unit now with stubbon and not allowed to run (BSB). The glittering scales should lower the overkill if challenged by a nasty character, and help him greatly against normal champs as he would hit last, but they would probably only hit him on 5 then. 24 Saurus Warriors with Banner and Musician. 24 Saurus Warriors with Banner and Musician. - My two walls to soak up damage and charges. Greatly supported from the Slanns spells. 11 instead of 10 Skink Skirmishers Blowpipes are able to kill most things - with a bit of luck. Its a maybe as I'm not sure if i can spend the points better. 6 Camo Skinks. 6 Camo Skinks. - I use these for taking down warmachines and annoying stuff that fly in my back. 1 Salamanders + 1 crew. Instead of the same x 2 1 Salamander + 1 crew. - Great for shooting low armoured units up. 4 Terradons. - I love them for the drop rock feature, which can be effective against many units. I do consider to bring them down to 3 and field a character for the extra points from the "maybees". Im Considering a Skink Chief with Cloak of feathers and some weapon so he can get fast to the WMS. Or a Chief with the Staff of the lost sun to kill off WMs or random chars. And this is where I need you to step up and rain the feedback on me. Thanks. I Got exactly 25p for a Item for the Skink Priest. Just not decided it yet.
I field a skink chief on a terradon with 3 other terradons. I equip him with either the ASF weapon or the fencing blades (this works really well). His 4 attacks plus the WS 10 (fencing blades) combined with the stomp attack from the terradon are really effective against characters foolish enough to accept that challenge. Took out a Vampire count with that combo.
Pretty solid list. Very similar to mine I am more stingy with points on the blocks, take 1 fewer sally, take the priest with cloak of feathers and take 2 stegadons instead.
The idea of a Chief on a Terradon do appeal to me. I can see him do well against warmachines and small light units. However, Im concerned about his cost, and the fact I'm not entirely sure how to put down the big stuff with T5 and more. Skinks goes along way but not that long i guess.
Thanks hehe. The priest with cloak is cool, but abit expensive for just the use as a vassal. I like the big blocks of Saurus as they are not shot down as easyly as stegs - Seriously they get killed by cannonball 50% of my games. But I'm considering removing 1 sally for getting that skink chief on a terradon to mess up opponents WMs.
I'm not sure the feedback-scroll/bane head trick actually works. The rules for the bane head state that all wounds caused by the wielder on the selected character are doubled, and as far as I can tell, you're not causing the wounds; the feedback scroll is.
I hear you, but isn't that like saying that if a scar vet has used the bane head then he is not causing the wounds but his hand weapon is? Besides the Lizard FAQ states it works with the Cupped Hands of the Old Ones - Are they so different from one another?
