I have an upcoming 1k game against Dwarfs. From what I read on the Tactica, Dwarfs seem to be really tough!!!

The mini tournament we are playing only allows ONE HERO. I guess that is fair since its only 1000 points.

However I have decided to skip magic entirely (chance of wasting his runic), and go with one strong Scar Vet.

Since the ONE HERO will probably be bombarded with all kinds of canons, I want to have good AS. So Scar-vet on Cold Ones it is.

    I figured that I can achieve 1+ AS, which is the maximum if I am right, by using Dragon Helm + Light Armor. (85 + 20 + 10 + 5 = 120 points)

Enchanted Shield is 15 points in the Armybook therefore taking Dragon Helm plus Light Armor will be a better choice since you have a free hand to choose a weapon.

The question is would you have Halberd or Great Weapon, or just AHW?

AHW: most dwarfs have good toughness, they are not skinks! I do feel that higher strength will be more useful than an additional attack here
Halberd: The scar-vet has I3 so there is actually a chance to hit first, but does many Dwarf carry GW?
GW: when both have always strike last rule, do we decide who hit first according to our I ? If that is the case, I think it is a good deal that they have to eat 4 S7 attacks before even striking me!!

At 1000 points, this Scar-Vet with other Cold One Riders will be the only hard-hitting block. Other than that I am planning to use Skrox, since they can shoot all day at the Skrox unit and it won't really matter as long as I have enough skinks to sacrifice for the all-important Krox's S6 attacks.

Any other general tips against the Dwarf are highly appreciated!!

im not 100% but if you and oponant have always strike last you hit at the same time regardless of I .
i think it is when a model has ASF and ASL then its I that you go on

Almost every dwarf carries great weapon even their common core.

Is this tournament for fun or is it a serious one? I usually can't resist pitting my saurus blocks with other tough things, such as the dwarves and see how they go. But if you want to win, mobility and range will be the answer.

    All the best!

    are you suggesting all skinks?

I compiled a list with two large Skrox unit and one CoC with a strong scar vet in the Army List section, it would be nice to have your comment!

I sure want to win, although I have never fought Dwarves, however it is not a "serious" competition, its just a friendly game. The place I go and play have set up this mini campaign where we have a map in grid and each player start out at a certain location on the map and expand and acquire land until they meet each other for a battle.

So its just a weekly event really. I played with Tomb King a bit and their infantry are really bad. However from what I read the Dwarves are really powerful, especially their infantry and war machines, so I try to figure out how to tackle them :)

Since you already have the CoC block, I think you can get away with just skrox units. If you don't feel all that comfortable with just skrox units, throw in a bunch of anvils. Dwarves are not that fast, skinks can run around them, shooting poison darts and the krox can bash them.

As I'm sure you've heard a million times, I don't find Cold One Calvalry worth the points, and as such I very rarely field a Scar Vet on cold one. Perhaps it's a different story with lower point games, but even then I still don't like CoC. As for the Scar Vet my go to build is a Scar vet with gamblers armour and a great weapon or Halberd. Generally I take a great weapon when it's an all comers list, as more often than not, scar vets strike second anyways. So might as well be throwing out S7 hits. Bear in mind, I've never played Dwarves myself, but at 1000 points my plan would be to take a huge block of saurus, throw in the 2+ AS, 6+WS, S7 Scar Vet for potential challenges and voila a unit that can handle almost any other unit. I'd then try and roast as much as possible with 2-4 sallies. :meh:

As for war machines just take them out as soon as possible with terradons and chameleons. Just get them pre- occupied until the saurus get into battle, and then once the saurus are in battle, your hero, and unit can't be fired upon by cannons. (with the exception of slaves and a warp cannons I suppose) If you have some skinks to spare send them at the cannons too! And ya, if your opponent is trying to outrun or stay away from the killy block of saurus, use skinks as redirectors to send them into charge range. Besides I`d be more concerned about them shooting at my Sallies with cannons.

Not a perfect plan, but I seem to be having pretty good luck with it so far, although I have never faced Dwarves. It is possible this list and strategy would get owned, I`m not sure, but I`ve won most of my lower point games wth my opponents using a list like this. :)
