Is he any good. I ws thinking of converting him for use in a 2000pt game and in larger games fielding him with an ethereal slann. Also if a slann changes into a monster- sixth lore of beasts spell- does the temple guard follow just behind him as they cannot join him.
Didn't know he had a model...will look into that. Question of the slann still stands. If anyone wants to know my local gw allows the slann to dragon himself up.
Turning into the dragon is the only time that a monster may join a unit. The slann will remain in the unit. Now, does he stay in the second rank or not?
Chakax can be great, or can be an enormous waste of points depending on the game. I used to play against Warriors of Chaos most of the time, and since their characters are required to challenge he sure came in handy. But, say the opponent is willing and able to decline the challenge. He can now attack Chakax with as many basic soldiers as he has in contact, and Chakax will be little more than a Scar Veteran with a great weapon, always striking last. The other problem is that in the new FAQ Chakax's rules are poorly worded, and many opponents will now argue that they strike at the same time during a challenge with him. I'm going to wait and see if they fix it before running him in any important games.
the new FAQ says "When fighting in a challenge, Chakax gains a 5+ ward save and his opponent Always Strikes Last.” Seems pretty clear to me...
When he says poorly worded, he means that it is a disappointing wording rather than an unclear one. The wording in the army book implies that he is striking before the enemy regardless of any and all other rules, which is great for us. Changing that to mean the enemy gains the rule "always strikes last" means (I believe) that they attack in initiative order now, seeing as Chakax has a great weapon (giving him "always strikes last" as well). Tell me if I'm misinterpreting something there, because I want more than anyone for Chakax to be boosted in 8th ed. rather than squashed.
Pg 66 in the BRB states that if an "always strikes last" model is fighting an enemy with the "always strikes last" ability, the attacks are simultanious. -M
Ah, kk. I see what you mean. Yeah, that is rather disappointing as with the original Army Book wording he was designed to be the Top Trump of striking first, which was his only redeeming feature. It's a great shame no doubt, but not sure it really a great loss. He always was very expensive for what he did...
One thing to keep in mind, the FAQ's seem to be 'living' at least for a while. They are getting a lot more constant updates than usual, some of them changed 3-4 times in the first few days alone. Anything that seems out of place or rediculous, a bunch of us should email GW with the questions and let them know, they may well update it to allow Chakax the same ASF that High Elves get with great weapons since that is how he was intended.
I would certainly send them an email, I just don't know what address to send it to... I can only find their customer service.
Yeah thats the problem I had, they used to have a rules email but seem to have taken it down. I sent my last email to that daily blog thing they have, but it got no response yet. I guess sales is the place to send them.
imo chakax isn't worth it, yeah he may make a TG unit unbreakable, but those 335 can be better spent. Gor-rok is 1/3 less and better if you ask me, or an oldblood if your slann's cheap.
