was wondering if u could take a group a tg without a slaan because army builder says u can have a unit of tg per slaan
You can have TG without a slann, as per normal rules for special units. The only restriction relating to TG and slann is that if you have both a slann and TG in the same army, the slann must be within the TG unit. I suppose in this case, army builder is wrong (or at least limited). Hope that helps
This is true. The thing to ask is: Why would you take TG without a slann? In my opinion, they are too expensive to take unless you are using them to protect the slann. Saurus can do the same thing. You can even build a slann with the crown of command and put the slann in a unit of saurus and have almost the same protection.
There's a discussion on this in the 8th ed Tactica index. http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/saurus-vs-temple-guard.8094/
Well, it's kinda a moot point, as if you're not taking the Slann, your army is already in dire straits. Take both, they are designed from the ground up to work together (TG meatshield and deny, Slann buffs them and lays down magic artillery from safety). One without the other just doesn't work (Ethereal is great until a magic weapon wielder or a spell hits you).
The previous army book was set up with severe limitations on Temple Guard, including limiting the units to one per Slann. Looks like you have an outdated file.
Hello, I just wanted to point out that paying 16 points per model with a 4+ sv and I2 Isin't a great deal. If you get Stubborn and ITP, from the Slann, then they become barley playable. The Slann is far better Solo than in a TG unit. I play one without etheral, but with the 2+ ward save from ranged and the standard of swiftness. When you will be targeted by a Greey seers Dreaded 13th spell and your slann won't have cogitation range becasue of the first row of TG, you will change your mind about a Slann in a TG unit... On the Bright side, the models are awesome
IMO unbuffed TG fold against any unit of equal points. You need to get some spells off for them to hold. I've been nothing but disappointed when fielding TG. The problem is without them even an ethereal Slaan can be sniped with magic weapons and nearly all spells. I feel obligated to take TG just to give the Slaan more protection and I hate them. Cool looking unit though.
