8th Ed. cannons, and bolt throws and monsters (oh my)

I'm new to the entire monster and handler thing. Couple questions:

If a cannon hits a stegadon, is the stegadon and all 5 skinks also hit? How about for a bolt thrower that only is supposed to hit ranks?

If a cannon hits a hunting pack, is the monster and all the handlers hit? Also how about bolt throwers and stone throwers?

While I'm thinking of it, do Salamanders get a stomp attack?

The cannon is considered a template attack which is why it hits everyone (very stupid rule IMO, but what can you do?) The bolt thrower is not a template and its single hit should be randomized between the steg and crew.

Monsters and Handlers are kind of weird rule wise, so just think of the handlers as removable ward saves-- they cannot be hit and all attacks go against the monster.

Sallies do not get a stomp.
