i was wondering whether or not a skink priest while in a skrox cohort (currently in battle) would still cast magic even when in base to base contact with enemy troops? thanks in advance.

He cannot cast any magic missles. He can cast hexes, augments, as well as a spell like comet of cassendora. He cannot cast the wind blast spell, uranon's bolt, or chain lightning.

Chain Lightning is a direct damage spell so it can be cast even if you are locked in close combat.

You cannot cast Direct Damage spells into close combat, so unless you have LOS while in CC to a unit NOT in CC, then you could not cast Chain Lightning while in CC.

Direct Damage do not require LoS they just need to be in your front arc.

Isn't there a rule about casting while in combat, can't find it, and that makes TG slann even less usefull as although he can't be targeted ,thankfully, he can still be challenged and if other spellcasters can cast in combat...
I will say however that RAI may come into effect and frankly I won't cast in combat just in case and because it makes my wizard stick out like a sore thumb, not that my flaying skink ever gets in combat anyway.

The rule is you can not cast magic missiles while in combat or into a combat.

Direct damage can be cast while you are in combat, but can not be cast into a combat. They do have to be in your front arc, but do not need LoS.

Hex and Augment can be cast into or out of combat and do not need LoS.
