It's been a while since I posted any painted lizzies. Thing is I barely have time between a new job and other stuff. I wanted to celebrate the End Times though, either a new beginning for us or going out with a bang. So I decided I'd make a skink priest of the heavens as I already got a beast-ish priest (check my paint log for my other stuff). I'm nearly done with it, more or less just need some proper basing. The pictures suck quite abit but I don't have the time or the means to take any proper pictures atm though so this will have to do. This is my celebration of The End Times! PS: I'm curious about the rest of you. Have you done anything special for The End Times? Any thematicly painted minis, played some cool campaigns? Or maybe just been sulking in a corner?
The only celebration is using End Times rules. My paint progression takes far too long to dedicate any particular unit to an End Times theme. I like the conversion. The top to the staff looks like it's from the Engine of the Gods? Where did you get the flame?
That's a great conversion! I love how you made the flame "float" in his hand. Is it attached to his thumb? The Verdi finish on the staff looks really great too!
Figured there'd be a few questions about the conversion stuff. I'm quite pleased with the results myself, glad to see you are too ^^. This is probably my most extensive conversion yet. I was great fun and I'll probably look into even more converting in the future! His base is from some GW basing kit along with some green stuff to make him stand up properly. I had to cut off a bit of his head fin (?) to angle his head upwards since I wanted him to look at the skies, being a priest of the heavens and all. Likewise I had to use green stuff to fill out his neck and throat to make him look up. The ball of flame is simply the tip of a flaming lasso from the Terradon kit with some green stuff at the end to make it a ball. I did glue it to his thumb to create the illusion of it floating. I've had some trouble with it though and I'm not sure I can repair it much more so I might just put it in his hand in the end... I wanted to see if anyone recognized the staff. If you've read my paint blog you'd know I have some 40k Tau projects going on. The staff is from the Tau Sunshark Bomber Bomb. Ever since I saw the bomb pieces I had as left overs I wanted to make something cool out of it. As a result the idea of this priest was born.
I actually did something very similar with a mounted Empire wizard this past summer. My biggest problem was in how to connect the "Fireballs". I used wire painted black, but I have since gotten my hands on some thin clear plastic strips that I think I will use if I ever try something like that again. Great concept though! This is the wizard (He was also inspired by the ET stuff when the new lore of Undeath came out):
Damn that's a pretty sweet model. I was brain storming ideas for a lore of death lizardman wizard but I came up short. It's nice when you can make a unique model for an army that holds a special place in your heart.
I have been just ignoring Warhammer since somewhere in the Middle of Version 8. The last models I bought were Demi-Gryphs. The last book I purchased may have been Lizardmen (cover art by Dainton; copyright 2012). I don't know if that is the current book or one behind?
