Hey guys, I just read somewhere that there is a Chameleon Skink Stalker in one of the older battletomes. Is this model still playable in pitched battles or matched play? If so, what can I use to proxy/convert a model for him?
The Chameleon Skink Stalker (or Oxyotl as we call him) still has rules, so he is still viable for open play and narrative play, but he has no point value anymore since the General's Handbook 2017 (IIRC) so he isn't usable in matched play. He also lacks the Seraphon keyword. Anyway, here is my conversion. Very simple from a regular Skink. I basically added the round eyes, sawed off the crest and tail and sculpted my own instead. Not the best looking miniature, since I really suck at sculpting. But it gets the point across I think. In the background you can see my Chameleon Skinks which were created in the same manner, just that those are green and the crests are a bit smaller. Fun fact: I finished this conversion only days before he became unplayable in matched play. I was furious.
Yeah. I actually think he is the only finished model of my army that I never played. ...I have to do that one day. At least once. If my opponent is OK with it I might just use him as if he was 100 points. That was his old point value from the first GHB.
Me too. I had my beautiful, custom made Skink Chief in every army. Because he made Skink units hit hard. ...and then he was gone...
I certainly won't hold my breath, but yeah, same here. I also think that if they really give us a new unit (for whatever reason, like a new/updated Battletome or some boxed game or something) it will very likely be something like that. Small, easy to produce, fitting into a hole that we have now. That is much harder to do for Saurus. So fingers crossed for a new Skink Chief and/or Stalker.
My main gaming friend is okay with fielding models "counts as ____" but we got a rule that if something is unofficial, to include, we need a model that is WYSIWYG I figure most people would be okay with a Chameleon Stalker if you had a lovely model for it.
