So is it just me or do chameleon skinks totally suck now? I ran some with Oxyotl, which shined, but once again the army builder file isnt fully updated with Lizardmen and shows the old deployment special rules, but I dont see this deployment rules in new codex?

Well, Scouts and enemies have an additional -1 to hit them ontop of being skirmishers....

Yes, that too, but nothin special about their deployment anymore I meant... except for the scouting that is ^^
I think they even could be deployed out in the open in the army book before this one, or out of sight, but as close as you wished to the enemy.

Yeah, previously they were the same as waywatchers just had different names for the same rules...

So the waywatchers stil has that deployment rule?
I can't really see the reason the rule was removed from the chameleons. Was it making them too good? I mean, they are quite expensive for skinks :S

Yes Waywatches still have the rule "Forest Stalkers"...

This allows them to deploy as close to the enemy as they want as long as they are out of sight, or 12" away but out in the open. The enemy also always has a -1 to hit them with ranged attacks...

They also have a rule where when firing their bows at half-range they get killing blow (its called "Lethal Shot" i think)...

The reason the waywatchers are still setup like this is because the wood elf book is still 6th edition, they haven't and may not get a 7th edition book. In which cause 2010 when 8th comes out (most likely) they may/may not be around anymore...

But they are around 25 points per model, and a rare choice (for copyright reasons)...

Personally, I think they are overpriced, and chameleons don't seem worth their points cost either...

A pity, really as I love the idea of infiltrating snipers.
The problem as I see it is that they are simply too fragile and too costly, otherwise i'd definently get some. Now I don't know if it's really worth it.

I think i should start up a thread to discuss their effektiveness, it feels like we are hijacking Bigbostons thread a bit :p
But I'm far too tired now...

There have been plenty of threads on charmeleon skinks, have a look around I think in the tactics section. I think that individually, they are too expensive for what they give, but for a full unit given what it gives for only 60 points or so, they are worth it. You will find that the unit is extremely useful and hard to kill for its points.

I'm not sure whether how it's phrased in the WE book, but chameleons had to be deployed exactly like scouts, but with no minimum distance between them and the enemy. Meaning that they still had to be behind interposing terrain ;)

Well I have the Wood Elf Book, and waywatchers can deploy 12" away right out in the open! So for fun, here's a quote..

    "Forest Stalkers

Clad in carefully woven raiments designed to help them vanish into the background, Waywatchers are almost impossible to spot. This means the enemy suffers and additional -1 to hit modifier when shooting at them. In addition, Waywatchers are able to sneak up extremly close to thier foes. Waywatchers are deployed at the same time as scouts, and can be placed in one of two ways. Either place them exactly like scouts, but with no minimum distance between them and the enemy, or place them in sight of the enemy (even in the open), but more then 12" away from them."

Thats the rule, word for word... Though I do not have an older version of the lizardmen book, so someone who does should compare the rules...

Spot on, exact the same wording.

I have my doubt on them, but I'm yet to actually field them so what do I know? ^^

I'll see what I can find in the tactics section, there shouldbe something about them there. Thanks Strewart.

I've been checking a few threads now and this one was quite interesting on the subject of the camo-skinks:
