This is the setup: High elf archers XXXXXXXXXXX Flat terrain ............................. Chameleons .......c..c..c..c..c Chameleons .....c..c..c..c..c.. Flat terrain............................ Saurus warriors SSSSSSSSSSS Do the saurus get a cover save from the chameleons? Do the high elf archers get a cover save from the back row of chameleons (they are two units of 5, but staggered skirmishers with clear lines of sight)? Any additional ideas or questions, in additions to answers are appreciated...
Prety sure that everyone get a minimal coversave. (including the chamelions due to thier -1 to shoot at ability)
As per page 41 of the CRB, if the intervening units obscure the majority LOS to the target, then they grant hard cover. Accordingly, the HE archers would be -2 (along with possible long range penalty) shooting at the saurus, -2 shooting at the closest chameleons (skirmish and chameleon rule) and -4 shooting at the screened chameleons (-1 skirmish, -1 chamos, -2 hard cover). Hope this helps. The gaps between skirmishers might make this very complicated if "true LOS" is applied rigidly as one would have to measure for each and every shooter and try and find the path of least obstruction - far easier to treat the skirmishers as a solid line.
