I'm quite new to warhammer, and i can't find out, in a 2000pt game, how many core units i must have, and how many special i can have, ive worked out i can only have 4 characters.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I don't have the books near me... so I think these are right...

Core is 3+ if I recall. I figure, the more the merrier. =D

Special is 0-4, rare is 0-2.

goes up like, 1 each every 1K points or so if I recall for all of them. I think. The LM book has it right after the color pictures if I remember.

Go to your army list section of you LM Army Book, flip back some pages and look at each of the pages. Im pretty sure its the one right after the coloured pics section. There are 2 charts, one tells you how many characters (and what type of which) and the second one is how many special, core and rare you can have.

IIRC, is 0-1 Rare, 0-2 Special and 3+ core... i know this seems like a kid counting, but i actually think that's how it goes....

You'll find this info in your army book. Lizardmen army book page 89 to be exact.

In general, the army requires for 2000 pts go:

4 Characters total, 1 of which may be a Lord
    3+ Core
    0-4 Special
    0-2 Rare

This is the standard for all armies (as far as I am aware). For other point games, you'll need to reference that table on page 89.

Actually, remember, Elfs get extra special so they can be an "elite" force (ie: lots and LOTS of swords master of Hoeth to KO us all.)

I had no idea. I just really dislike GW's attempt at sculpting humanoid faces... they are overdramatic and cheesy in my ever-so-humble opinion. And elves have a lot of faces. Yuk. So, I havent really read the Elf army books. I probably should at some point to get an idea of what I could be up against.

So elves get to take extra Special or Rare choices then? Some armies circumvent this with a leader type changing a core type. For example in Beasts of Chaos if you take a Minotaur leader, then the Minotaur units change from Special to Core and such.

Just High Elves. They get extra special AND extra rare for a total of 6 and 4 at 2k, on top of that the minimum requirement for core is reduced by 1 to 2 choices at 2k. This is because the core suck and the elite are apparently meant to form the bulk of the army.

Hmmm there was another army with a small modification too..... Oh, Brets get an extra hero choice. This is because in their army they have to take a BSB, so it basically means they get a BSB for no choice (still points obviously).

The good thing about Lizardmen when it comes to army construction, is that we have excellent core units. Skinks are just wonderful support units, and saurus are great infantry. At least one cohort of skinks and one unit of skirmishers gives any army a good start.

I know about circumventing, actually i thought it'd be cool to make an army of trolls for WoC... I really want to, like 4 units trolls and then just stuff.....
anyway... better not go into more detail, this is inappropriate as its a LM site (i actually feel like abit of a traitor for liing them) AND this is starting to become a Army list.

You should see a quote in my sig on B&C.... "Why is it that all the recent facial sculpts from GW look like people who've just found out that smearing jam on your inner naughty bits and sitting on the top of an ant-hill isn't a good idea?"

I wouldn't say just recent though....

Its not, it was in answer to snowy's dislike of the facial sculpts, and a reply to circumventing using heroes.
