    Pro's and cons:

    Pro's:
    Can have awesome magic
    Can have awesome Close combat
Gets wide variety of fear causing units.
Can either have blocks of troops
Can go all Skirmishers for a fast force
Can play godzilla with lots of monsters
    Reliable cause cold blooded rule
    Versatile
    New army book

    Con's
    No warmachines

As for painting, they are relatively easy to paint and you can do virtually any color. In my oppinion lizzards are awesome and very different from any other army. I field mine as a heavy infantry/magic list.

Definitely start em.... I recently just got back into Lizardmen and haven't been this excited about Warhammer in a while. I know I like versatility in an army.. which was why my last army was Dark Elves. They're def one of the most versatile armies out there... but despite that they had some cool looking models.. I just couldn't get fully into em... I realized its imagery that affected it. Seeing huge lizards squish puny humans just appealed to me more than some elf dancing around and slicing.

So I would say their biggest PRO is that they are versatile. They have quality troops, they have an answer for pretty much anything out there. You can get away with get 1 unit of each since the troops are good, so that leaves you with a lot of variety in 1 army list. As mentioned already.. a huge pro for me is their imagery... I'm in the process of converting my Dark Elf Cold ones into Lizardmen ones... just awesome seeing all these lizards riding other lizards into battle... and imagine them getting lead by a Carnosaur! Also, our characters are on hanging with the ranks of the top of the food chain in their respective discipline (Saurus for combat, toady for magic). You can have an army of a buncha Stegadons (I wouldn't recommend though.. but can be interesting).

As far as con... with quality comes price.. we have expensive characters and units. I think they are all fairly priced... but some of the "lesser" races can potentially generate the same amount of damage for less points (though LM can probably do it more reliably). Also.. I think the LM's ideal damage output range is somewhere from mid to short. You will not win any long range firefights.

Don't buy skink cohorts. They're crap.
    Get skink skirmishers.

Cohorts are ranked up with javlins and shield. Work well as redirectors, or cheap harasment.

Skirmishers skirmish are 2 points more expensive and come with blowpipes, can be upgraded to javlin and sheild for another point but very few pepole find that worthwile.

Also cohorts can ad kroxigors to their units, read other tactics threads about that since the opinions on that are pretty divided.

Most pepole on this forum seems to prefer skirmishers over cohorts or krox skink groups. But There can be some advantages found if you use em corectly.
Personally have only feilded a skink/krox unit once before, 11skinks 1 krox =110 points. The unit killed stuff for 300 points so I think I like em ^^

I dont think skirmishers and cohorts are separate models.. I havent ever seen any different boxes than the standard skink box that contains 24 skinks 6 skinks per sprue with 5 of each weapon choice and i believe 6 shields aswell (including some extra bits).

Anyways, i use the same models for both tasks and i find my cohorts extremely usefull. they are cheap and functional against the right opponents, add a kroxigor or two and they are good against pretty much anything, except first-striking units.. High elves..

I almost allways bring one unit of 10 skink cohorts because they can do what i would want swarms to do, move quickly, block sight etc etc. Its a unit to be creative with.

Maybe my english understanding failed me there. Skink skirmishers and cohorts comes from the same 24 dudes plastic box. You basicly just equip em difrently, play them diffrently.
Sorry if I caused some confusion.

i run an all skink army so i need both to remain effective. though the skink kroxigor mix units aren't the best at combat, they are all i have for my theme, plus they have the fear and aquatic abilities, and allow more special slots open. i generally fill them with terradons, which are great tactical units.
