Hey all, just started Age of Sigmar and I'm starting a campaign with some friends (a couple of death players, 1 SCE, and 3 chaos demons: Slaanesh, Tzneetch, Nurgle). I have a good base for a summoning army, although I'm debating on what to take and what to summon. So far I have:

Slann Starmaster 260
Skink Starpriest 80

Razordons x2 80
Salamander 40

Skinks javelin/shield x20 - 120
Skinks boltspitter/shield x20 - 120

Ripperdactyl Riders x3 - 140

That puts me at 840. I am debating on taking a Troglodon for the other 160, chameleon skinks and some handlers, or just taking 3 more ripperdactyls..

Other models that I have:

Troglodon
Ripperdactyls
Chameleon skinks
20 saurus with spears
5 saurus knights
Bastilodon w/solar engine
Scar-vet on cold one
Oldblood on Carno
Oldblood on foot

Any advice on the list is appreciated!

I'd drop the starpriest. You can get the spell on the Slann with the vast intellect command trait if you need it. That frees up 80 points. You could drop the salamander and bring an oldblood on carnosaur or bastiladon, or more rippers and knights without dropping anything else.

If you're set on keeping the starpriest, bringing 3 more rippers or dropping the salamander and running a shadowstrike are both good options.

You might want to consider cutting the skinks down to 2 units of 10 and saving the other 20 for summoning. Maybe get an oldblood carnosaur to have a use for CPs.

I was hoping to make use of great rememberer for battlefield control and mobility, so I wanted to keep the starpriest for summon starlight. I definitely dont mind dropping the salamander and shrinking the groups of skinks. But I was afraid bringing another big model would leave me with too few bodies on the field, having the carno and the slann means half of my points are in those two models.

I played around with the idea of the shadowstrike AND more ripperdactyls but that seemed like way too much of a glass cannon..

I have a practice game coming up, season doesnt start for a little while so I have time to tweak it. I'm probably bringing this:

Oldblood on Carno
Skink Starpriest
Slann Starmaster (great rememberer, gryph feather charm)

2× Razordons

10 javelin slinks
20 boltspitter slinks

3 ripperdactyls

I'll probably spend summon points round 1 for skinks, then summon ripperdactyls turn 2. Or I could just save up for bigger stuff. Any thoughts?

First practice will be against great unclean one and a bunch of blightkings and nurgle damons... going to add in the bastiladon. What do you guys think of this?

Slann starmaster (great rememberer, gryph feather charm)
Skink starpriest

Bastiladon

×2 razordons

10 skinks boltspitters/shields
10 skinks boltspitters/shields

3 ripperdactyls

The last 40 points could either be a group of skink handlers or a balewind vortex if I can get it in time. I would bring another razordon if i had it, but alas i do not. Any advice on how to make it better?

First practice game went well, I brought the bastiladon list from above.

I ended up getting tabled at the top of round 4 and literally only killed one model (one blightking, eaten by razordons). In the end the slow demons couldn't captured the objectives in time to score enough points. Game ended a 7-6 win for seraphon.

It was my first game using summoning, and I definitely think I should find room for an astrolith if I want to focus on that. I also got too aggressive at some points, for example summoning more razordons because I was angry at the blightkings instead of summoning more skinks to protect my slann, which I think helped my opponent a lot. Next time I will take pictures and try to make a batrep! Thanks for the advice!

I built a list today that I really like, as follows:

Leaders (560)
Slann starmaster (great rememberer, gryph feather charm)
Skink priest (priestly trappings, light of dracothain)
Eternity warden (amberglaive)
Skink starpriest

Behemoth (280)
Bastiladon (could be changed out for EoTG)

Artillery (160)
Razordon ×4

Battleline (390)

Saurus guard 3×5
Skinks (boltspitters/shields) 2×10

Other (280)
Ripperdactyls ×6

Battalions
Shadowstrike starhost
Eternal starhost

Adds up to 2k exactly. Idea is to create havoc with rippers while the guard protect the shooting and summoning part of the army... my only problem is what do I do with all these command points?? No real mentionable command abilities.

Any thoughts?

I've played three games in a row against Wanderers and let me tell you the Slann's CP is a great against shooting. Keep it up the whole game. Bank the rest for Inspiring Presence, and/or At the Double, Forward to Victory.

I guess that's always good to have as a backup. Hopefully most everyone can be effected by the Priests trappings to reroll all saves, but it's less reliable so I'm sure I'll end up spending some on the slann.

Working on a new list:

Leaders

Skink Priest [80pts]: Priestly Trappings

Slann Starmaster [260pts]: 3. Great Rememberer, 3. Gryph-feather Charm, General

Behemoth

Bastiladon [280pts]: Solar Engine

Artillery

Razordons [80pts]: 2x Razordons

Battleline

Skinks [60pts]: 10 Skinks, Boltspitters and Moonstone Clubs

Other

Ripperdactyl Riders [140pts]: 3 Ripperdactyl Riders

Skink Handlers [40pts]: 3 Skink Handlers

Battalion

Battalion: Sunclaw Starhost [550pts]
. Saurus Sunblood: 3. Amberglaive
. Saurus Warriors: 10 Saurus Warriors, Celestite Spear
. Saurus Warriors: 10 Saurus Warriors, Celestite Spear
. Saurus Warriors: 10 Saurus Warriors, Celestite Spear

Total: [1490pts]

I have a real problem wanting to take everything instead of focusing on one thing. I know the sunclaw wont be super effective at minimum sized units but I only have 30. I'm also trying to figure out the best way to have both the priest and the starpriest but I'm not sure how worth it it will be. Anyone have any ideas or hints?

To be honest: I think you spread over too many things there.
Most halfway competitive lists will probably crush this in two rounds.

IMO the minimum playable Sunclaw is 40+10+10.
The Rippers outside of a Shadowstrike are not exactly amazing either.

I suggest going either for Skink heavy or Saurus heavy, the in betweeners often somet work well.

If you don't have the Warrior models to get beefier units, I'd remove them completely and use those points elsewhere.

Well the idea of the list is to make use of the warriors and the sunblood. If it would be better to use them in one group of 30 then I can do that. But I will definitely be fighting deamons so I know the 2 damage and -1 rend will come into play with the sunclaw battallion.

That being said if everyone agrees the sunclaw seems useless I will just put them in a group of 30.

The downside there is you lose the Battalion. If it's just a friendly game, you could try 3 Units of 10, but be prepared for them to fold like paper armor.

So I guess consensus is shelf my new warriors and sunblood until I can get and build another box? That's a shame

Yeah, I want to use mine too, but from what I've read, the Sunclaw Starhost is currently one of the weakest battalions we have. Maybe that will change this year after Seraphon are updated.

I haven't heard that anywhere. Lots of people suggested I work towards sunclaw vs eternal starhosts. I know saurus arent the big meta right now but I wouldnt say it's the worst
