Hi folks, I've got a bit of a decision to make and wondered if people would give me their views on the topic... http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/nuka-toad-part-iii-2500pts-tourney-aspirations.2076/ I've got the conundrum of choosing between 2 steggies or 2 bare bones 5 lizard cold one units and having some points to play with... What I wanted to ask here was peoples opinion on what is better to use the special slots on for your hammer unit/s? Both regarding my list and in general.
2 steggs Pro 1. 1D6 inpact hits 2. Terror 3. ITP 4. Unit str10 5. Bolt thrower on his back Con 1. Naked COR 2. Fear and no terror 3. Easier to break
True, but I find that units of COR get the charge more often (higher movement) they can dish out more damage per frontage than a saurus unit w hand weapons, and they have 2+ armour saves in cc, they are an awesome shock unit, and I won't leave without them. 2 words about stegadons- LARGE TARGET- They attract every single bolt thrower, cannon, and long range weapon in your enemies force because they are hated so much. The cannon can drop them instantly..but whats the max it can do to a front shot at 5 cold ones? a single kill.
It's a tough decision really. I generally agree that COR are more durable and nasty on the charge. But they are stupid. 14" maybe, or 12" always. I am playing in the Ard Boyz tourny at the end of this month and am running two EoTG's, one chief w/ war spear and BSB on a baby steg, as well as Unit of 8 CoR w/ music, standard and war banner. I plan to line up and Charge Straight ahead! I'm hoping that the EoTG Ward Save will get me there with less damage. We'll see... My answer is both!
i took a stegedon with engine of the gods since i have a slann for channeling not sure u have a slann but every time i play with my WOC friend his whole army goes for the stegedon
I think you'll be able to get away with more Cold One Cavalry units in a tourney than stegadons. Primarily because stegadons cause your army to take big comp hits typically speaking. For ~2k point games its generally accepted that one steg is fine, but when you start piling characters on them along with multiple stegs it becomes a problem for certian armies. In tournaments cold ones are typically ignored or not used because of their stupidity rules. Although some still field them, most experienced tourney players will try to avoid things that cause you to loose controll of your units (Stupidty, Frenzy etc). As far as my recommendation, I would try and take a balanced mix of the two. Each contributes its own advantages and disadvantages that you can use against your respective opponents. *edit* Partial removal for irrelevant content.
