So the wife bought me a box of the riders today and I am not really sure on how to build them. I have never really used mass calvery before as I usually play Ogre Kingdoms and I only have mounted ogres, both on rhinox (forge world) so as I know nowt about the lizardmen I was wondering what your feelings were on arming my new boys on thier coldones, So far I have 20 skinks with pipes 16 saurus with spears and shields 1 slann I am guessing spears and shields are the way to go, but any tips would be great
Calv get no bonus AS for a hand weapon and shield so go with the spear and shield for the +1S on the charge.
Indeed, there is no handweapon + shield combo for cavalry. Take the spears ofcourse. a 2+ safe and str 5 on the charge is great. HK
2+ save ? huh ? Mounted 5+ (thick skinned) Scaly skin 4+ Shield 3+ ... I'm under the impression our cav can max have 3+ save wich is bad for heavy cav of 35 pts..
yea new one... But I'm still under 6th ed rules.. still... 2+ arm save for a 35pt/rider sucks.. while lot of armies can get a better 1+ for 10pts less.... those don't have stupidity and get lances wich means +2 S on charge.. damn Greil knights ;D S6
I played orcs for years the very low chance stupidity is going to kick in is a blessing compared to animosity. Most Knights with lances are only S3 so they get a S 5 charge, we are S 4 with a spear so a S 5 charge and if you do not break the enemy you still keep S 4 for the rest of the rounds. Also our mount is much more effective then the horses of most races in combat and ours do not suffer the movement penalty for heavy armor. Toss in cold blooded and the basic 2 attacks on the profile you have a hefty unit to deal with. Is it worth the points, its up to you, I use heavy calv as a flanking break this block this turn unit that just happens to put a bit of fear in the light calv or fast flanking unit other players tend to put on the flanks. They are not Brit Knights that can be the centre of your line, they just are not that durable. Though while typing this thoughts of carnasaurs, steggies and cold ones all running across the board with swarms of skinks seems like a fun game.
Personaly, I didn't use much cavalry in 6th ed. but with improved armor and lowered cost, there might just work good enoght for my use. Fielding 2 units, one on each flank, atleast one should be able to advance through the enemies to get around them... Looking forward to get my hans on that new book.
