Converting 'normal' skinks to chameleon skinks?

In the LM army I'd building I want to run 20 chameleon skinks in two units of 10, but I really don't want to pay GW prices for them as it would cost a fortune! Has anyone converted normal skinks to chameleons (using green stuff)? How easy is it, and do you have any photos? I'm guessing that as long as I paint them differently to the normal skinks, make sure they have blowpipes and somehow give them a 'curly' tail I'll be able to pass them off as chameleons?

basicly, roll up some gren stuf cones for googly eyes,
clip the end of the tail, and roll up a GS snake and curl
it into a roll and stick it o the nub.
done.

Thanks! Some of those conversions are fantastic... Definitely cheaper converting normal skinks than buying chameleons.... GW must think we are all suckers! They sell 3 chameleon skinks for £15, and a box of 24 normal skinks for £20! LOL!!!

I had a friend who used small terrain pieces on 20mm bases as chameleons. I couldn't fault his logic... I was pretty cheesy, but funny at the same time. i.e. a blow pipe sticking out of a bush or being used like a snorkel out of a marsh etc.

That's brilliant! I'll have to find some photos of them... I'm not going to do that - but I love the concept behind it.

They look fantastic! I might have to copy some of your ideas in that photo :-D Did you let the green stuff 'set' before attaching it in place to the model? I've never had much success with green stuff, but then again I've never really used it in anger before - this will be the first time I've used it for more than a single miniture or a one off thing!

The green stuff was still soft when I attached it to the models. As long as the contact between the green stuff and the plastic is reasonably firm it tends to stick without using glue. These camo skinks were pretty much my first attempt at using green stuff and all you need is a bit of patience and dexterous fingers. The green stuff is more malleable when it's warm so it's worth rolling it in your fingers for a while to transfer some heat.

If I've said anything daft I imagine one of the more experienced green stuff users/sculptors will correct me.

I'd just get stuck in. You would have to really destroy a lot of 'normal' skinks before it became more cost effective to actually buy 'proper GW' camo skinks.
