What kind of formations are good for riding dinosaurs around in? I've only really used 6 wide single ranks so far.

Is the sacrifice of frontage for a 3x2 formation worth it for flanking mobility?

The trouble with the narrow frontage on our cold one riders is that you lose so many attacks. Defaulting to 6 across is usually a good plan, although you might run into a situation where the more narrow formation works well for you.

I've only used mine half a dozen times, but a few times it has seemed that the width made it hard to maneuver competitively against enemy flankers/cavalry.

Ah, well of course it really depends on what you are using them for. If the wide formation is preventing you from responding to the enemy's moves, just swift reform to the narrow lance and you should be able to get to where you need to be.

Oh yeah, reforming is a thing.... I guess it's all too easy to forget your options when you're staring at a unit sitting nicely on a movement tray!

I've brainstormed ways to get away from the whole movement tray thing. I had an idea that could work, but it would require a different type of base for each model. If you somehow found bases whose sides were 90 degree angles, so that the bases could sit flush with one another, you could put rare earth magnets in the hollow space underneath the bases so that they faced the sides, rear, and/or front of models. So when two models were side-by-side, they'd hold together nicely, but you could also pull models off the sides and connect them to the backs of units. Obviously this would work better on cav or other smaller units, since you'd need a lot of magnets. But I think it could work...
