I'm looking for a good way to counter war machines.

I was thinking skink skirmishers would help but I see more people going for 6 model units of chamo skinks.

If this is stupid, sorry, I'm pretty new to lizardmen.

Our best war machine hunters are chemeleons, hands down. Even if you cannot deploy them behind enemy lines, you can put them directly in front of their target. Then in the first turn, march them up and shoot. Even if there is a unit in the way, the chameleons will usually wound on a 6. The high BS (4) gives them the flexibility that is needed to successfully hunt war machines.

Another option is Terradons. Terradons get a vanguard move of 12 inches before the first turn. So, in some situations, you can get them in place to shoot a war machine in your first turn. Then you can charge in the second turn. You can also drop rocks on other units as you fly over them.

Both of those options are much better than skirmishers because you can get to the war machines very fast with them versus having to cross the entire battlefield with skirmishers.
