8th Ed. Cube of Darkness

    I've always been confused about this item.

    I feel like it should be better..

    But just to confirm I've been using it right:
    First! Its a dispel scroll, so I dispel the spell I activate this on.
    Then! I roll a d6. On a 4+ the magic phase is over and remove all RiP spells?

    Right? It doesn't auto end the magic phase?

    Where do you guys put this in your rotation? First enemy casting turn? Save it for when they have a lot of power dice, and use it on their first spell (even if this is turn 4/later)?

    yep it's a dispell scroll &
    It does end the magic phase on a 4+

    Used on turn 1-3 typicaly, hopefully when your oponent rolls realy high number of casting dice.

    Follow up question:

    Chamo skinks effectively cost us the +1 from deployment, right? Unless the opponent took scouts as well?

    I think Chamos are usually necessary, still annoying to get -1 for first turn though

    Well here we ignore scouts when determening who goes first.

    We indeed lose the +1
    The player that finished deploying his army first adds +1 to his roll(brb 144)
    scouts are part of deploying, i believe in the 7th we did ignore the scouts for deploying but this book it doesn`t say we do.
    or i`m wrong, please tell me if so and were it says i am

    TBH i never really questioned it the older players just did it that way.

    Scouts are not a part of the regular deployment. Scouts are a seperate deployment. Maybe I am wrong in this, but our club has never played it any other way. I looked at the rulebook and the FAQ, I did not see anything that states this either way. The BRB says that scouts are deployed after all other units (your troops and the opponent). If I have to wait for the other guy to finish his deployment in order to place my scouts, I finished before him regardless.

    Again, I have never encountered anyone who has a problem with this. I would argue this point happily.

    That got me side tracked.....
    The Cube is awesome! I took it in a game yesterday. I used it in the 3rd turn to stop some spell (forget which) and end his magic phase. I effectively shut down his magic phase in the frist 3 turns using a scroll, dispelling in the 2nd turn, and the cube in the 3rd.

    The cube is an item that I will almost always take.

    Don`t get me wrong, i want that +1

    But at our club the head cheese found this loophole, and i can`t find in the rules were it says different.
    We have a tounament soon, and i don`t see how i can change this.
    Deployment is deployment, and i don`t see a rule about scouts having a seperate deployment so it means we didn`t set up last.

    Btw.
    I love the cube, if i can i use it.

    You could always get him to call GW on it to get a ruling from those guys. Not that it will help. Worth a shot.

    Got the awnser on the +1 roll question:
    BrB p142
    Deployment
    Alternating Units

    It say`s: "All characters must be Deployed last"

    This means that when the characters have been placed the deployment ends and the next thing you do is setting up Scouts.
    This is for me enough prove that scouts are NOT part of the deployment
