Any tips? I have been fortunate enough that every time I played my Daemons opponent it has been in lower point games but now its about that time! the keeper and the bloodthirster are seriously giving me nightmares. My first thought was blowpipe skinks and skink krox but both the keeper and the thirster are way to fast for me to get into position. What are peoples experiences with Greater Daemons and how do we kill them?

skink is the answer bro :) try to cause as many wounds as u can, taking on the keeper of the blood thirster in combat is like putting slann in front of a steam tank and think, SH*T he isnt ethereal!

i handle all big monsters with skinks, i know they have a wardsave and stuff :)

other thing that could work is a ancient steg with other tricksters shard and hope your impact attacks dont wiff :)

Lore of light could help some. However, I believe Daemons have access to an item (or banner) that can cause wounds to a light caster.

    banner -2 to chosen lore
lore of light spells are miscast on double 1 2 and 3, or something real close :d

Yeah he always uses that banner. And even if I get my spells through a banishment does an average of 1 wound after saves and a big shems does about 2. and he usually uses a herald with loremaster in life so those wounds are coming back fast. does the Keeper start as a lvl 1? if so the combination of banehead, shems, banishment and cupped hands could feasibly take him out in 1 turn

But they cant really get close enough to shoot and a stand and shoot from 10 blowpipes will only do about 1 wound which he will get back if its a keeper with spirit swallower

yes keeper starts at level one
and if u cant get your skinks in shooting range you are doing something wrong, if u hunt his greater deamon with 3 units, he will start fleeing , and leave your other units, or make a charge in a unit that he wont like,

greater deamons are hard, but they lack immense save:)

So the answer is to concentrate all my skinks on him while im bombing him with magic. whats to stop him from repositioning his greater daemon so my skinks all are on the wrong flank? both the keeper and the thirster runs so fast that my poor skinks cant keep up, all the while his screamers and his flamers and flickering fires are beating up on my skinks.

Chameleon Skinks have always worked for me. If you are lucky and your opponent puts the GD on a flank, he is all but toast. You can even set up far enough away that you are guaranteed a Stand and Shoot.

Once I was able to avoid the Great Unclean One by muddling up the board with several close combats, effectively blocking all charge paths with his own units.

If you are concerned with the speed of his GD, take some Terradons and harass him the whole game.

    this should work for you:

deployment; deploy what you want your units to attack from his units, use skinks as screen, or gap filler
dont focus where his greater daemon is going to be

movement; sit back, fire him with some magic and shooting, dont go out to fast, daemons only shooting is flamers,

once the greater daemon comes closer, you can start stalking him with skinks, make sure to screen our combat units, to make sure the greater daemon is never contact with them, so he can be shot at all times

it needs some skill, but u will make it;)

Thanks for the tips, promise I wont go at him too fast, I find that Saurus are middling in combat at best and terrible against bloodletters, the more I think about it, why do we even bother with saurus? sure they beat up slaves, goblins and the like but against almost everything in their own price range they get savagely beaten down.

    they do not =)

    for 12 points u get
2str 4 attacks which is pretty decent , they are toughness 4, and 5+sv and 6+ parry sve
put them 5 wide , 6 deep and your enemy has a tough nutt to crack :)

I was kinda terrified of facing a bloodthirsther last week for the first time. My friend had just finished painting his daemon army and wanted a go at my lizards, he was not supossed to have it so I din't plan for it, but he could finish painting it on time and surprised me with his army list.

He got a wound from my skinks shooting phase, then he charged them and got two more wounds on a stand-and-shoot. He obviously killed the skinks in combat and front charged my Temple Guards, he got two more wounds from the Guards and died hideously :rage: . Costed me three TGs (which got regenerated on my magic phase anyway) and a unit of 12 skins to get his 450 points.

Also another unit of skinks could hold a flank all by themselves anihilating some tzeench screamers on another shoot/stand-and-shoot/combat combination and then danced sniping around some useless Tzeench horrors for the whole game.

It's amazing what the little fellas can do. :beaver: A skink unit is the best 84pts spent on any army.

    I disagree :D

Im well aware that im not a veteran but in my about 100 games with lizardmen the saurus are the one who has done the least. I know alot of people disagree but I still find them to be meh.
2 attacks seem great at first, but since almost every other elite unit hits saurus on a 3 plus it amounts to roughly the same amounts of hits.

Awesome! maybe im just overthinking it. for some reason greater deamons just scare me. I should probably just face my fear.

As everyone has said skinks and in particular chamo skinks eat them for breakfast. Death slann with bane head isn't a bad option either as they only have 5 wounds(goes to 3) or I4(purple fun!). If your skinks cant keep up/are getting charged then your doing it wrong, GD can charge 22" max while skink threat range is 24"(12" march and 12" range). No deamon player wants to be within 24 of your 30 skink shots (5 wounds avg. and he only has a 5+ save) as with a bit of luck he's dead in one phase. Similarly throwing an insta kill spell at the beast can be worth it as a 1/6th chance for 550+ points is worth 4/5 power dice.

As for the saurus vs BL I think this has been done before but 30 BL vs 33 Saurus h\w & s (both in horde)
the BL kill 9 in the first round and the saurus kill 8 back. 22vs24
the BL kill 7 in the 2nd round and the saurus kill 6 back. 16vs17
the BL kill 5 in the 3rd round and the saurus kill 5 back. 11vs12
the BL kill 3 in the 4th round and the saurus kill 4 back 7 vs 9
the BL kill 2 in the 5th round and the saurus kill 3 back 4 vs 6
the BL kill 1 in the 6th round and the saurus kill 2 back 2 vs 5
In the 7th round the Saurus win for the loss of one more model. It's close but the saurus win eventually. Obviously characters and magic can tip the balance but as you have a slann(s) it should just favor you more.

About the saurus bloodletter combat. Wow I did not expect that! Everytime I fight bloodletters my saurus just vanish in a red mist, but then again he makes his ward saves like a boss.

edit. Just checked the math with hatred in the first round. Saurus lose every round and is eventually all killed and are not steadfast in any rounds. thats probably we my poor saurus keeps dying.

u dont need to go horde vs horde against blood letters , saurus always go stead fast, hold them in place, and charge in them with a ancient steg with a skink priest holding the other tricksters shard, and u will see him cry ;)
