I was wondering if anyone has had a run in with the "Death Fist Ogre" yet? I was wondering if people had any good tactics against it.

Have not but what I have read it is going to be nasty vs. LM

Best defense is stay out of range of the death sniper spells and always have Becalming so they cannot total power and at least give you a change to dispel.

Also keep Skink Priest with a Scroll and one with Cube of Darkness on hand.

I really need to see it in action to though to make a solid recommendation as to how to defend against it

The Death fist ogre refers to a ogre spellcaster equipped with the "greedy fist" talisman that takes away a wizard level for each hit it does, not wound, just hit, combined with death magic. there is alot of debate concerning how effective it is, some say you loose a level for each hit the spell does, others say its a level per spell. Nasty either way.
Edit* i should think our slann is safe riding in the middle of his temple guard unit, so no lone slann's when facing Ogre's

sounds nasty. i checked the rules, and at least spirit leech doesnt do any "hits", only curse and fate does (and purple sun). still, i guess you defend it as you would defend against death magic usually: by dispelling it. Also, a loremaster slann can stand to lose a spell or two without crying too much.

havent tried in practice but i would try cogitation + dispelling to keep it at bay. if you get your slann in to CC (and that shouldnt be a problem) he can not be targeted by direct damage spells, and only purple sun is a threat (though if your opponent hits your TG/slann with purple sun, the losing of a magic level is probably one of your smaller problems :D)

Certain Lore of Death Spells can still snipe a Slann out of a unit even if he is not in front rank. :(

    You?

If you're letting Ogres get that close to you with Death, you're already dead (as he's charging you by now). Also, why would he waste time trying to snipe you out that way? 'Purple Sun' does the same thing but nukes the entire unit as well (except of course if you have 'Speed of Light' up, then he's hoping for 6's). Or even 'The Maw' from their gut magic does a decent job of nuking a Slann (you get your ward, but if it gets through it can potentially kill you).

Greedy Fist might not even work with magic, they clarified that ranged attacks work but not spells. Seems pedantic, but I've seen it go either way before.
