8th Ed. Dice Teaser - Wound Marker Concept

For Qupakoco's sanity's sake (winters are long in Alaskalustria) and to ensure we get Chessex orders in before the world runs out of plastic, lets have a quick discussion about another Lizardmen Mystic Cube

Wound Markers


Rationale:
I don't use dice as wound markers (I use the pieces from a travel Chequers set. They clip together nicely into little stacks. Red for Wounds, Black for Buffs. I put them on my stegadon's head like a little hat) but many others do use dice. Stray dice on table have a nasty habit of being picked up and rolled. A D6 design which is unique may prevent your clumsy opponent / ally from stealing your last wound.

I count wounds upwards (a red top hat is bad), but I think this is unusual. Either way, these mystic cubes might help you keep track.

Rationale for sides:
Images chosen for models with that number of wounds

6 Kroak Death Mask. Our only 6 wound model.
5 Swarm. I think we might see a few more of these. Stegs are too hard to draw. Has anyone not pulled the head off their Sneezadon yet?
4 Bastiladon. Our only 4 wound model.
3 Razordon. My new favourite unit. Note the wicked smile that says, "Skink or You. I don't care".
2 RipperDarryl. Man, that is ugly. In all other cases the pips represent cannonballs. Here they indicate testicles.
1 Snake Eyes. I will be using these dice for leadership tests. And as I've said before, if I roll Snake-Eyes, I want to see Snake-Eyes.

How Bob would use them for wounds:
Start counting up from 1. When the image on the dice matches the model on the table, remove model. When the cleaner turns out the lights, go home.

PlasmaDavid suggested surplus sides (1 and 6) could be used as buff and hex markers. I would use the Snake Eyes for Hexes and Kroak for Buffs.

If you really need specific buff markers, I'm planning to come up with a static combat resolution calculator (with images) printed out on A4 label paper to get stuck onto cardboard and cut out (check with Mom or Dad before you use scissors). The idea is that you line this up behind your grindy combat to keep track of banners, overkill, wounds etc etc. As this won't cost anyone anything much, it'll probably be silly. I'll include several Buff, Hex and Flee markers on that.

As I said, quick discussion please, so Chessex and Qupakoco can get samples organised, and we can all start ordering (and rolling).

My wallet! It weeps! I like the designs (especially the razordon, though it should be purple) and could probably find a use for a few of these, depending on the price of each die.

 

i would order them if they were mutiple colour choises that is if i can buy ~4-8 dices of diferent colours.

 

I would be interested in adding several of these. As someone with a lot of dinos/multiwound modelsin my lists, I would find them very helpful.

For the ripper 2, maybe on the wing segment closest to the body? Or just in the air to either side of the head if that isn't too crowded?

I know this is really early to mention, but I would like these dice to be drastically different colors than the others. All the others are for offense (hitting/shooting/magicing). Would help them stand out in the cube/bag as well as on the table so they don't get rolled by either player accidentally.

Love 'em! Definitely interested. Although might I suggest a slight different design on the swarm one. It looks like you're rolling a 1 on the die. Maybe two snakes facing opposite directions?

 

while these custom dice get more and more expensive im in for theses too they will be beautiful id like 3-4 of these for leaderships tests as well (edit that proberly means 5-6 cold blooded plus casket of souls etc and have wound markers left over )

 

I will not venture into the adventure of wound marker concept dice. I am still interested in 'regular' D6's.

They look cool though =D, that is a fact.
