EDIT: Added in a Snake-Eye for custom 1's. *The Horn of Krygor blares in the background* Attention all lizard folk! From the Lowliest of Skinks to the Mightiest of Kroxigor! Make your way to the central plaza to see your Omnipotent Shaman, the Prodigious Prophet, The Keeper of the Dice and all things sacred! The mystical glyph's of fate must once more be cast for our kind! Yay! Dice time!!! First things first however, I need to narrow down the designs a little. We potentially have 9 different designs that we can submit if we end up doing all of them. To me this seems like a lot of options. Chessex works on a volume basis, so if we water down our entry with lots of different designs, we'll likely be paying more in the end. Not that we can't do everything, I just think it would be more financially responsible of us. So it's a vote! I would like everyone to please: PICK YOUR 4 FAVORITE DESIGNS (we'll order 6) Snake Eye (16mm, replaces 1) Death Mask (16mm, replaces 6) Lizard Glyph (16mm, replaces 6) Comet (16mm, replaces 6) Bob's Head (16mm, replaces 6) Artillery Pips (20mm, all sides) Artillery Numerals (20mm, all sides) D3 (20mm, all sides) Wound Marker (20mm, all sides) Magic Comet (20mm, all sides)
Is this thread strictly for voting? I have graphic design ...... suggestions, comments. But I am enough a n00b that I hesitate to derail the thread. (Edit: added comments / suggestions in a post below.)
If you have suggestions you can add them here. If it's another design that you would like to submit, go ahead and PM it to me. Sound fair? I've only spoken with Chessex about pricing so far, so we have time to edit the designs if there is enough interest.
Death Mask Design I would like for the hairline circle to be bolder like the outer circle on the comet design. Lizard Glyph I think this one needs to lose the outer hairline circle. If this is a ©GW design let it be changed a bit? add some horns or a crest? Comet I spotted this or a very similar design on the back of the army book. There are other graphic ways to draw comets with two tails. (Which astronomically are a Real Life thing, BTW.) Suggest avoiding GW© IP. Bob's Head I like this one; it seems the most unique to this forum. As suggested in another thread around here somewhere, the arc over the head could stand to be a bolder, more solid line. Artillery Pips This is really hard to read and understand. (That bullet hole looking pip from the comet design could help this design immensely.) The face with the cartoon skink is, I suppose, a salamander misfire (snack time). Artillery Numerals This one is a marginal improvement over the pips design but too many of the faces are non-obvious. As above, the face with the cartoon skink is, I suppose, a salamander misfire (snack time). D3 The one and two faces are pretty good. The three face needs work ... it does not read as a three. The two does not look like a toothy Serpent because of the way the points of the teeth align. By touching at the tips the whole deal looks like scales. Moving one set of teeth so that they offset and interlock should be tried. Wound Marker I can't tell which face is supposed to be what number on this one: does it have pips and glyphs? This concept needs a redesign IMO. I use crystal style D4s as wound markers to distinguish them from D6 used to roll hits. Magic Comet This has three comet designs. The big one which might be close to a GW™. I wish it had just one style of comet (the little one with three flames). On the face with just one comet an enlarged three flame comet could be given a heavy outline. The heavy outline could be drawn to have only two tails. The center comet that also looks like a bullet hole might be a good graphic to use on an artillery dice design. (Edited to add: I would like to see what this one looked like with the little comets on each face all aimed the same direction...flying in formation.)
Thanks for the feedback. The circles around the Death Mask and Lizard Glyph are not actually there. The circle was placed there by Chessex to represent the border of the drawing area for the 16mm dice. I'll have them make some mockups of the dice prior to ordering to see if we want to change anything. I suspect we might have to edit the Comet design a little based on this. Especially if we're going to be butting heads with GW IP issues. We did that a few years ago with the first LM cistom dice order. Here's the dice we ordered last year:
Twin Tail Comet I grabbed a pencil and a sharpie. This is what I was thinking when I was suggesting taking the small three flame comet and adding an outline that makes it a twin tail comet. It needs to be cleaned up a great deal. Head needs to be round. Those inward spikes are not working for me. But generally...something like this.
Looks really nice. @n810 , could you use your wizardly photoshop skills on that and clean it up a little?
@n810 : Yes, go for it. If the computer that used to do it wasn't dead, I would stick it in AutoCAD, put some spline curves on it & Make it vector art so it could be re-sized as needed and rotated cleanly. Also, those inward spikes behind the head ... I was trying for tongues of flame to the inside, but I didn't bring it off. Smooth those out? Change the shape and fix it? Also, the outer line is an inconsistent thickness ... do please fix.
I wanted a some dice with Slann head ones for Ld tests. Cause Slann are leaders and "1"s are good for leadership tests.
Last time round the iliterati brainstormed concepts then I scrawled the design (with non fattening subliminal Bob additives) This is a final template.png file. The scale is right. The grey in the corners indicates "no image past this point." I was never happy with the snake eye. It was an iterative process OVER MONTHS to come up with the designs on MS Paint, and it cost me my life. (No really, ask anyone...the first 5 or so pages of the custom artillery dice tryouts thread is worth reading just to see one lizard's fall and subsequent revival...but at what cost? At what cost?)) (Qupakoco the image of 'You know who' from page 3 of the dice thread has decayed. Another bit of necromancy might be needed. Self necromancy? It's all a bit confusing.) I'm inclined not to spend time tweaking this time around, but anyone else with skillz is welcome to play with the images. I think that these will be the most final templates I still have on file. It includes a less subtle scatter concept which we abandoned for some reason. The last dice is a tribute to the design team. A prototype was never constructed due to, you know, reasons. That glyph sure looks naked without a shell! Never went into production (I just did a mock up for a joke) Fun Fact: There are 14 subliminal Bobs in the images above - not counting the Bob glyph and unit musician.
I traced in in CAD with splines then exported to Photoshop to re-export to a .png . (should be smoother)
Nice job N810. The little inward spikes bother me less now that the head is a more concentric circle. I still wanna tweak them into flame shapes somehow. Maybe I am bring too picky with my own doodle. I like that free floating wisp you added to one of the tails. @Bob at least I can figure out which face is which (on the dice I just didn't understand) thanks to those resurrected graphics. Is the D3 with arrows underneath a dual purpose scatter die/D3?
Is it possible to get two special sides?? like the death mask for 6 and Snake eye for 1 on the same cube??
Chessex can do 2 sides for money. (Cheaper than 6 sides) I will make the point (again) that the Chessex logo is the eight pointed star of Chaos. Someone please come up with a better snake eye. The arrows were an abandoned scatter concept. I ruined my spline and my eyes doing pixel by pixel correction on MS paint. This PhotoCAD trickery you speak of sounds like dwarf mischief. It is too advanced to be safe for use by Lustrians. Like the wheel.
Yes, I get it. Th'nx is the Old One of gratitude. Leaving out the apostrophe was an awesome way of hiding the gag AND sucking up to Scalenex.
Found the pencil, the sharpie, and index card book... Not completely sure how I got the gleam effect in the upper right, ...an accident, ...or dwarven trickery. @spawning of Bob What do you think? @n810 ...cleanup on aisle 10, por favor?
