Technically extending a straight line from the Slann would hit a T-Guard in front of him. Is there a rule that lets one avoid that hit?

I know Fire is not a particularly popular lore for Slann but I eventually want to try all the lores with a Slann.

Unfortunately, yes it will cook a Temple Guard.

One of the reasons I don't take Fire on a slann in a TG unit.

Dependent on the tolerance for rules lawyering in your area you could always argue that you are shooting the BH down the gap between the two TG in front of you.

I don't think that argument would fly with many people. I guess I'll hold off on fire until I get my DOW battle ready....

I've always assumed that a Slann in TG cannot cast The Burning Head because of that. Direct Damage templates cannot be placed so that they will hit friendly units - this isn't exactly a template, but it bounces like a cannonball which has been defined as a template.

Does anyone else play it this way or is my interpretation wrong?

My Temple Guard are only too happy to give their lives in the advancement of the slann's mission...

I would definitely be willing to make the sacrifice, but I'm not sure if its legal. In general, you are not allowed to directly target your own models with a damage spell, and this would definitely hit one model.

Any opinions?

I agree, you can't cast it at all as it would hit your own models, which is not allowed.
