I heard the term "double slann bunker" for the first time recently, and being relatively new to very large games in WFB 8e I am unfamiliar with the concept. Is this simply describing a list with 2 Slann, or is there some larger point to having both of them? Thanks to anyone who can explain this
A Slann that is bunkered is a Slann in a unit of Temple Guard (TG) as opposed to one flying by itself. That much I know, what I don't know is a double Slann bunker is one TG unit with two Slann or two Slann with their own TG bunker. I don't even know if two Slann can join one unit of TG or not.
Hm.. Thanks for the input. I just don't see why someone would use that many points just to have an additional lore available.
In games 2500+ points, it can help. However, if you do not play it correctly, you end up ignoring one slann over the other. An effective combo is Death/Life or Death/Light. You can use the Death magic to add more dice to the power pool, but you are risking the Death slann when you do that because Purple Sun can really explode and ruin your own units.
Wow, fielding two Slann? I guess with double focused rumination you'd have a chance throwing out plenty of spells.. and as mentioned above lore of Death can generate power dice so that might be a good choice. I have to say, I'm not a big fan of purple sun. Don't get me wrong, the spell is utterly devastating against anything with 3 or less initiative... but that, in itself, is the issue. Empower it, throw in a power scroll, and now it is using the large template and only a 13+ casting difficulty for wiping out most of your opponents forces on even a nominal artillery die roll. Even worse, you roll misfire and watch your slann and nearby units get ripped to shreds. Purple sun, is nothing more than flipping a coin to win a game against low initiative armies. In my humble opinion, when you have a large template that can move 30 inches straight across your enemy's deployment line and blow up 50%+ of their army it is the least sporting thing to do. Actually, myself and an Ogre Kingdoms player have an agreement between one another.. I don't drop purple suns on him and he doesn't slaughter master greedy fist against me. We play the game to have fun and enjoy a few hours of gaming. Nothing reaks more than taking time to construct an army list, get it ready for deployment, agree on terrain, roll for table edge, take turns setting up, then getting wiped first turn to the point you know there is no coming back.
you can not powerscroll a boosted spell. Reference Section – Arcane Items, Power Scroll Change to “POWER SCROLL 35 points One use only. A Power Scroll can be used when the Wizard makes a casting attempt. During that casting attempt, the casting value of the spell is halved. You cannot choose to boost a spell when using the Power Scroll.”
