Playing a test game with a "healing" focuses list. The idea being to push monsters up fast and make them tanks with lots of heals and let kroak put out damage behind them. Focusing on completing battle tactics while monsters hold a front line.

The hydra experiment is 1. to free up more points to bring in chamo skinks and the lifeswarm instead of a 2nd steg. Could also sub that for a skink blob. It also has its own healing ability and more base wounds than a steg.

The alpha pack could also swap back to linebreaker.

Some of the unit choices I would say are influenced from not wanting to do FoS and mixing it up from the more popular Thunderlizard.

anyone try out a healing build in a game? does it work or more just on paper?

So for healing/holding focus I feel you should go into TL and field a EotG instead of a Skink Chief. Getting a SkinkChief with alle the support in there is a massive powermove but I don't see how it supports a holding and healing strategy very mutch. TL also can make a Bastilladon a real range threat, so besides using your EotG twice that's maybe something you also want to have an eye on.

Here is what I got for you (there is room for more Battalions), more notes to my thought's after the list.

    Allegiance: Seraphon
    - Constellation: Thunder Lizard
    - Mortal Realm: Ghur
    - Grand Strategy: Prized Sorcery
    - Triumphs: Inspired

    Leaders
    Lord Kroak (430)
    Saurus Astrolith Bearer (150)*
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (215)*
    - War Spear
    - Artefact: Amulet of Destiny (Universal Artefact)
    Skink Priest (80)
    Skink Starpriest (130)*
    Engine of the Gods (265)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Nimble
    - Artefact: Cloak of Feathers

    Battleline
    5 x Saurus Knights (110)*
    - Lances
    5 x Saurus Guard (115)
    10 x Saurus Warriors (105)
    - Spears

    Behemoths
    War Hydra (170)
    - Allies
    War Hydra (170)
    - Allies

    Endless Spells & Invocations
    Emerald Lifeswarm (60)

    Core Battalions
    *Warlord

    Additional Enhancements
    Artefact

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Reinforced Units: 0 / 4
    Allies: 340 / 400
    Wounds: 110
    Drops: 11

In TL you get the -1 Damage ability for your Seraphon Units. Your EotG can spam heal on your center or MW's at the enemies and with the support should still be a hardhitting piece. It also comes with quite some + to saves, making most rend useless. The Scarnosaur gets a 5+ wardsave from the amulet, now everything in your army starts to become real tough. Still I'm unsure if a healfocus army is good, but it was fun thinking about it. Hope I could help you. ;)

yeah I had not thought about the Eotg. It is all hypothetical. I dont know if healing is just an on paper strategy or if there is diminishing returns on going full healing.

I think if you're going to run the healing you'll want to be in thunder lizard for the additional wounds and damage reduction.

I think the general idea is solid, but your army doesn't really reflect the idea. Something that's healing monsters you push up should be running an EoTG and more monsters (as pointed out above). And i think your army would get a lot more mileage out of a starseer than a starpriest.

Personally i think the hydras are dead weight. I would replace them with honestly anything else.

yeah, with the EoTG there they could be dead weight.

The original thought of running it in DT was the ability to teleport for sneaky battle tactic wins. I also just like to be stubborn and try out lists that are not 100% in the meta... thunder lizards are awesome and of course the most popular at the moment.

dropping the hydra in the first list, subbing out the chieftain for EoTg, and then adding in a sotek arc bastiladon unless I can shed an additional 25 points to get solar.

avoiding and regular saurus models just due to models I own

yeah dude can definitely respect that. I'd just put something together and try it out. So hard to judge things now with how fresh 3.0 is for everyone.
